Hi everyone

Hi folks,

My partner listens to cricket on the radio.
The one he usually uses has a horrible tinny sound, so I hope to buy him a radio with better reception & sound quality.

Am I right in thinking that cricket is mostly on long-wave ?

I'd risk a DAB radio if it could pick up long-wave as well, as DAB reception is an unknown quantity around here.

I've heard Sky has aquired the rights to show test matches, are any changes to radio coverage in the pipeline ?

Much thanks

Helen

Helen , I believe there is a BBC Sport Channel on Digital . To check
if you CAN receive it in your patch (assuming you ARE in UK) log in to
http.www.bbc.co.uk/digitalradio and enter your post code .

Obviously the man needs treatment at the new wing of the Neil Young Center for the Terminally Screwed......the recently reopened James Taylor Catatonic Blandness Rehab Clinic. It can be argued that anyone watching Cricket even live has a serious problem and someone who actually would listen to this game on the radio may well be completely over the edge!

Spaw

Oops X 2 - sorry

Thanks Leadfingers, the site indicates the channel probably can be received, I'll have a look at the station via PC to see what the coverage is like.

Hi Spaw, having listened to a few commentaries just to see what I have been successfully avoiding all these years, I suspect listening to cricket could push somebody over the edge.

Thanks guys

Helen

Careful Helen, you'll be sending cakes to Aggers and Blowers before you know it.

Catatonic Blandness Rehab Clinic, indeed, Spaw. That's pretty rich coming from a land where grown men play rounders in a "world series" that only involves two countries. You ought to be thoroughly ashamed of yourself, my good man.

Pete the Englishman.

Anyone who thinks cricket is boring should have been keeping track of the latest test in SA (that's South Africa for any Americans reading). What a total cracker! A what a wierd pitch! What a titanic up and down struggle! I love short games like rugby and Australian rules football, but no game even comes close for real deep-reaching satisfaction to the extended, immersive, absorbing, mood-changing, saga of a really good 5-day test match.

well, there IS a hot ...ummm..cold Curling match! Now that would make interesting radio!

"It's sliding...it's still sliding...now they're sweeping.....stopped sweeping....the stone reaches the target...it BUMPS!....one stone moved 3" left, one 8" right, and the missle comes to rest in the 3rd ring!"

England declare at 570 for 7 after being 139 all out on the first innings! WHAT a great game this is becoming!

Test Match Special is indeed on long wave, and will continue for some years even after Sky pinch the TV coverage.
I think any nation that considers basketball a sport just doesn't have the necessary attention span for cricket.

He probably won't want to listen when the Ashes series starts.
