Subject: Lyr: Add Prince Edward Island From: Gene Date: 28 Dec 04 - 11:15 PM I have always liked this song, forget who recorded this version, a net pal sent me a CAS tape of it a few years back. [it wasn't Hank Snow or Montana Slim] Prince Edward Island (Is Heaven to Me) [1] They talk about Texas, Ken-[4]-tucky and [1] Maine They [4] talk about [1] London, [2] Paris and [5] Spain But [1] there's a little Island, I [4] long there to [1] be [4] Prince Edward [1] Island is [5] heaven to [1] me. The shores are so pretty, the fields are so green The roads are so winding with such pretty scenes The air is so pure, and the people so gay Prince Edward Island, I'm coming to stay. There's swimming and hunting and fishing galore The sun shines so bright on its long golden shore The Lord made this Island for all men to see Prince Edward Island is heaven to me. SPOKEN: You know folks, There are ten Provinces in the Dominion Of Canada Each beautiful in its own respect Such as British Columbia, Quebec, Alberta, Newfoundland, New Brundwick, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario, & Saskatchawan. The soil is so fertile, so rich and so rare It yields such potatoes which none can compare The tourists are welcome to walk its red soil The farmers are happy to work and to toil. There's thousands of Islands in this land of ours Like dots on the ocean or dew on the flowers A touch of God's great hand this Island must be Prince Edward Island is heaven to me. |

Subject: RE: Lyr: Add Prince Edward Island From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 29 Dec 04 - 07:16 PM This song was written and recorded by Harold Breau under his stage name of "Hal Lone Pine". Hal came from the USA but he played a lot around Maritime Canada in the 60's and 70's. I met him in Summerside in 1970. I bought an Lp from him that I still have with this song on it. He can be heard singing this one and several others on "The Record Lady". George, the #'s are for the chord changes. Sandy |

Subject: RE: Lyr: Add Prince Edward Island From: GUEST,honestfrankie Date: 31 Dec 04 - 10:56 AM A little trivia regarding Hal Lone Pine. he was the father of Lenny Breau the jazz guitarist extraordinaire. Lenny played with his musician parents since he was a little kid. |
Subject: RE: Lyr: Add Prince Edward Island From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 31 Dec 04 - 02:50 PM Thanks guys for the clarification on the numbers. Guessed they might have to do with chords, but as I don't play an instrument, I wasn't sure what they meant. So, if it's a different key, it's all different then? |
Subject: RE: Lyr: Add Prince Edward Island From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 31 Dec 04 - 04:20 PM George, The numbering is generic to any key. #1 would be the chord for the key you are playing. The othger #'s are the chord progression and they would count the same as notes on an 8 note scale. If you are playing in "C" your scale would be CDEFGABC . For a 3 chord progression you would play C,F,&G aka 1,4&5. Using these #'s you can choose any key and just play the 1st, 4th,& 5th chords . Slainte , Happy New Year! Sandy |
