Subject: Tech: Where does Netscape keep the mail files? From: pavane Date: 02 Jan 05 - 10:00 AM Hi, I have just had to rebuild my laptop after a hard disk failure (overheated when the fan failed) Although I think I have recovered everything from my backups, Netscape (7) can't seem to find my email folder, and I can't find it either. Does anyone know where it is found and what it is called? Ta |

From: Abby Sale Date: 02 Jan 05 - 03:07 PM In XP C:\Documents and Settings\**Your Name or User or Some other**\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\**some number**.slt Search for cookies.txt or prefs.js; all the settings are in there. But you'll have to manually edit prefs.js. The directory will be a new **some number**.slt and several lines of prefs.js must be changed to point to the new **some number**.slt. Be sure to close netscape, any systray netscape and backup prefs.js first. There's a bunch of online stuff. http://www.holgermetzger.de/pdl.html - Default Profile Directory Locations and Tips & Tricks |

Subject: RE: Tech: Where does Netscape keep the mail files? From: Abby Sale Date: 02 Jan 05 - 03:37 PM Oi! And panacea.dat which you also have to edit. The actual mail is in the sub-directory, \mail. And \news, of course. Load of crap, isn't it. I'll give you a trick for free. This one's very own invention. (The other stuff I know because I recently looked it up, had to go through the whole sheebang, myself. But it worked.) Try: 1st copy your cookies.txt (if it's already set to include Mudcat.) Go through Tools | Cookies to eliminate any sites or cookies you don't want. Copy it again. (Play safe.) Mark cookies.txt "Read Only." Now sites think they're setting cookies & operate nicely but none are actually set. If you really want a cookie, unmark the file as needed, then remark it. Screw IE. |
