Subject: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Arturo Date: 09 Jan 05 - 09:37 PM Because of the new sales promotion in the UK and the resulting number 1 hit Jailhouse Rock does anyone think it likely that The King will be cloned and put to the task of the long awaited world tour he failed in his lifetime to achieve? Please give your views on how likely this event is and be as creative or lateral as you like. |

Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: hilda fish Date: 09 Jan 05 - 10:42 PM Whadya mean, comback? Come back? I don't think so. Elvis lives. He has his morning coffee regularly in Charlie's Cafe here in Woolloomooloo, Sydney, Australia, every morning after his walk around the Gardens. If he is in a good mood and the coffee is the right temperature he does a damn fine rendition of "Love Me Tender" (although I do like Jimmy Little's version a lot more). I thought he did it for me because he liked me but I am beginning to think he does it because he wants me to pay for his coffee. So come back music wise? I hope so. He needs the money. |

Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: hilda fish Date: 16 Jan 05 - 06:57 PM Elvis's comeback is based on a seeking of redemption. "In the Ghetto" is an ongoing curse which I'm not sure can be redeemed and the greater problem of an American voting public that continually gets it wrong is the bigger problem in terms of redemption thus ensuring that Elvis's continuing comebacks may well be a form of living purgatory? Lordy Lordy, Elvis and his ma would be proud of me for this one. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: Little Hawk Date: 16 Jan 05 - 06:58 PM Elvis was a rather naive fellow, I think, basically a nice guy...and he did what his handlers advised him to do. This led to some pretty dreadful movies and some pretty dreadful songs along the way. Nonetheless, he was a truly great singer and performer. Footage of him performing in the early days is still riveting, in my opinion. |

Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Arturo Date: 17 Jan 05 - 04:05 AM One Night is Number 1 on the UK Chart and listed as the 1000th number 1 in history for all time. I cannot believe that intelligent people cannot appreciate a beautiful song of social awareness like In The Ghetto (The Vicious Circle). Please do yourself a favour and listen to it again without prejudice. Elvis is the American Dream personified to many people around the world. However, the tragedy of the end of his life still inspires debate and conjecture to this day and will forever be played out in Theatres and on TV as a warning to anyone who dreams of superstardom. "Be careful what you wish for, it just might come true". As for his movies he made a fortune for doing them and fans loved to see him and were happy to pay the admission. Isn't that a fair trade off? "Silly movies" most may have been but good old fashioned down home entertainment without smut, graphic sex and violence was what was required from him and Elvis gave his audience something the whole family could enjoy without trying to be pretentious and self indulgent in vying for critical acclaim above pleasing an audience as most so called actors of the day did. Some still knock him for a bad film, a poor album or for getting older and fatter but the fact remains he is still The King - who the f**k are you? If you need more convincing simply watch The 68 COMEBACK SPECIAL there has never been a better performance by anyone and probably never will. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Sidewinder Date: 17 Jan 05 - 11:29 AM Here, here! I thought Jailhouse Rock was a terrific film and must admit I quite like "In The Ghetto" but do prefer his Sun Recordings and pre Army period to the rest of his output. Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Arturo Date: 21 Jan 05 - 03:43 AM Top of the Pops has turned to the star of Elvis Presley musical Jailhouse Rock after the late rock legend scooped the UK's 1,000th number one single. Mario Kombou, who plays the Presley role on stage, will sing One Night on Friday's BBC One show as producers are unable to use Presley video footage. It is his second number one in a row. The show used Presley photos last week. Presley will feature in the charts for several more months as all 18 of his original UK chart-toppers are reissued. Tribute A Top of the Pops spokesperson said: "It's a very special number one as it's the UK's 1,000th. "We wanted to pay tribute to Elvis in the best way we knew how, so we thought getting a professional would be the best way for Top of the Pops to do that." Kombou is likely to appear on the show again next week as the next Presley re-release, A Fool Such As I, is on course to give him his third number one in three weeks. Kombou plays Vince Everett in Jailhouse Rock - the same role Presley played in the 1957 film of the same name. Source: BBC / updated: January 20, 2005 [] []patrikw wrote on January 21, 2005: report abuse this is just appalling. One Night is one of Elvis' finest vocal performances and to have it parodied by some impersonator is just a criminal act. Can EPE not have some influence here and ban these perfomances also? EPE have a lot to answer for. For the sake of letting the BBC use footage from the 68 tv show for probably 3 minutes showing Elvis in his prime - they are letting an impersonator take over. A valuable opportunity of promoting Elvis is lost here. Instead of that we have to be subjected to the usual drivel of some clown in a wig curling his lip.William S. Burroughs wrote on January 21, 2005: report abuse What a load of shit! better if they just don´t show anything, I mean, Im 24 years old, Im an Elvis Fan since I was seven, I have almost every C.D. released by RCA/BMG and a few F.T.D. (I would like to have them all to, but you know Im not a rich guy) But you see Im a music fan, before an Elvis Fan, though it is because of Elvis that I learned to appreciate all kinds of music, from classic blues artist as Robert Johnson, to country singers as Cash or Willie Nelson, from Ma Rainey and Billie to Holiday John Coltrane and Miles Davis, from Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Dylan to Radiohead or Björk or... no, not Lisa Marie haha, but I will not insult her as other people. From Elvis to even classical. My love toward music is so big that I rather chose to be blind or to be In a wheel chair than to be deaf. But Im very very in debt with Elvis cause I learned and discover what wonderfull treasure music is at the same time I discover the wonderfull artist Elvis was; I just can´t understand people saying that they only buy Elvis rescords, I respect that, but for me is the other way, Elvis gave me the key to discover what a deep expression art is, and my life is richer because of that. So for me, well I want to puke when its cames about Elvis impersonactors and Britney Spear dressed like Elvis, and Elvis himself in those lousy soundtracks (well not really himself). |

Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Arturo Date: 21 Jan 05 - 01:19 PM The previous posting was taken from an Elvis News website and not my words but I would echo what the author said about Elvis opening up a whole world of Blues and Country and Soul Music for me. Because Elvis' influences were the unsung heros of the thirties and forties i.e Arthur Crudup, Eddy Arnold, Memphis Slim, Billy Eckstine, Clyde McPhatter,Jake Hess, Roy Hamilton etc. and his amalgamation of all of these styles really did enthuse and inspire a generation. Not a bad legacy for a boy from Tupelo. |

It seems you've got more chance of locating a top class elvis impersonator than actually finding a record or cd in the shops ! ( i.e no chance) I've been a fairly active buyer on e-bay for Elvis stuff over the past couple of years but am disgusted at the profiteering going on and would call upon all fans to do exactly what I intend to do which is refuse to buy the stuff from them. As long as there are desperate fans prepared to pay silly money (and I can fully understand why) these characters will carry on and all we're doing if we buy off them is encouraging it. I guess I'm being unduly optimistic but given the outpouring of negative comments from fans on various sites I think action will be taken. I did see a suggestion on one site yesterday that BMG had been in contact with e-bay regarding this matter. Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Sidewinder Date: 07 Feb 05 - 04:15 PM Flamenco Ted a bitter sting at the swarm of Elvis fervour buzzing around at the moment.Do I take it you are not enamoured by the most successful entertainer in the history of popular music? Please allow me to educate you on the finer points of why so many people around the world look upon Elvis as a beacon of hope, a guiding light in a world too tempered in darkness to show compassion for the weak, respect for elderly, or even guidance to the young. Back in the austere post war 1950s;money was tight, the outlook was tentatively hopeful and the young looked up to authority with blind faith but no real focus to unite them. Then, like a thunderbolt from above, a movement emerged called Rock and Roll. It was not just music,it was not just fashion and /or style, it was not preaching at anyone or seeking to control anybody. It just said, in no uncertain terms, if it feels good do it! No matter what the "squares" say or do.By luck or divine intervention, or as some say an inherent prodigious talent. A twenty one year old, trainee electrician, from the real definition of abject poverty, took the crazy decision to give up his simple humble safe existence and fire the furnace that within months dominated the sound and vision facilities of the whole wide world. This boy was vilified and despised by the establishment and suffered unspeakable acts of hatred from his fellow god fearing, flag waving, true Americans! But, and here is the point; he didn't give in and move to Mexico he "suffered the slings and arrows" and emerged, in the fickle world of entertainment, "The King" - this was not, as in Michael Jacksons' or Little Richards case, self bestowed. It was an act of respect and admiration (unwanted and mocked by the boy) proclaimed and reitterated by the media for almost 50 years. This act alone leads one to believe; in the face of great adversity, there is always hope. As Elvis once sang, with a fervent passion that other singers could only derive solace from, "If I Can Dream" and for millions around the world it is so much more than a dream it is the feeling of love and humility that took a boy from a two roomed shotgun shack in Tupelo to Graceland and made him a legend. He united a generation and gave it a voice and inspired The Beatles, Dylan, Morrison, etc. etc. etc. and still had time to reflect decades after the goldrush. Unless you are totally bereft of intelligence this "decent, fine, boy" deserves respect and an acknowledgement that not only did he do it first- he did it better than anyone could have predicted. Thank you for your time and patience I will look forward to your more reasoned perspective. Regards. Sidewinder. |

Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,ALs Pal. Date: 02 Mar 05 - 04:22 AM I love about 4 or 5 of his albums -The Sun Sessions is a classic and the best debut of all time.Elvis is Back has the smouldering "Fever" and some of the best white blues singing and playing of all time. From Elvis In Memphis is the birth of "blue eyed soul" and the best album of its time.Elvis Country paved the way for Gram Parsons etc. and is one of the best country rock albums of all time.Elvis Presley Boulevard is an outpouring of angst on a par with John Lennons Plastic Ono Band album and Jeff Buckleys best work. His first 2 RCA albums are pretty good period pieces and very influential and his gospel albums are highly polished labours of love.I also can be persuaded that GI Blues and the latin tinged Fun In Acapulco are worthwhile efforts. But cannot find a good word for Girl Happy and Easy Come Easy Go soundtracks. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Arturo Date: 02 Mar 05 - 12:38 PM You really know your stuff AL you should give some of his live albums a listen -he was after all the greatest performer of all time. |

Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Sidewinder Date: 17 Mar 05 - 02:04 PM Just read an interview with Dylan in which he states "Elvis recorded one of my songs and that's the one I treasure most".After doing a bit of research I found that Elvis actually recorded a few Dylan songs but the one he is referring to, I believe, is "Tomorrow is a Long Time" which Elvis recorded in 1966. After listening to the song I was very impressed with the way Elvis sang the track and I can see why Dylan likes it so much but I think Hendrixs' "All Along The Watchtower" takes some beating. Regards. Sidewinder. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: Paco Rabanne Date: 18 Mar 05 - 08:56 AM According to BBC radio 2 yesterday, the re release of 'amarillo' by Tony Christie is outselling The Burger King's re release by TWO TO ONE. Tony Christie, now that's what I call a proper singer! |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Sidewinder Date: 18 Mar 05 - 01:46 PM I think having Peter Kay on board makes the difference to be honest as the song is one of the "cheesiest" cabaret songs of all time and in the repertoire of every 3rd rate compere in the land.If they made a video of the Elvis single with Ricky Gervais doing his David Brent dance that would top the charts for a year. But would it make the song any better? Regards. Sidewinder. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Arturo Date: 19 Mar 05 - 03:31 AM I think that some people are getting away from the point and Flamenco Ted if you think Tony Christie is a better singer than Elvis you should be declared a phillistine and condemned to listen to Radio 4 for eternity. |
Subject: Elvis never left us (If I Can Dream) From: Genie Date: 02 Jul 08 - 04:22 PM Roy Orbison was a better singer than Elvis. Elvis said so. Unfortunately, Roy died too soon too. But Elvis lives on in songs like this one. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: Muswell Hillbilly Date: 02 Jul 08 - 04:27 PM Elvis is no longer interested in performing. He lives, very quietly, on a tree lined street in Oxford. These days he prefers to be known as Roger. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Frank wilson Date: 03 Jul 08 - 12:47 AM Elvis died. His music and legacy lives on, but he biologically died. Don't you "Elvis-gurus" or "Hard-core-devoted-fans" watch those documentaries? They placed his dead body in a coffin and buried it. His music and legacy lives on. I don't know why people say he's still walking the Earth. Not a bad performer. Actually, experts have said that if it hadn't been for thr racism in the 1950's, Chuck Berry may have been named the King of Rock 'n' Roll. Also, Jerry Lee Lewis was surpassing Elvis when Jerry was in his prime, but that scandal killed his career, and Elvis was back on top again. Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash toured with him in the early days and outstaged him. Elvis wouldn't play another show with Carl, because they drove him off the stage screaming for Carl once. Elvis is cool, but he wasn't really the top performer, as everyone claims. He did a lot, there's no question to that, but he can be over-rated quite easily. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Sidewinder Date: 08 Jun 11 - 07:23 AM Ah! That's better! Awakened from my slumber; I dreamt I saw The King with Johnny Cash & Eva Cassidy and they were all singing "A Wonderful Time Up Here".Was it really a dream? Best Wishes. Sidewinder. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: J-boy Date: 09 Jun 11 - 01:48 AM When Elvis Presley died his colon was so inflammed and impacted that he truly could not shit. The coroner's report said his colon weighed close to fourty pounds. That is what killed him. He died on the toilet straining to void his backed up bowels. |

Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 09 Jun 11 - 10:44 AM Not unless unrecorded material miraculously appears as has done with other artists after their demise. His music had an impact on popular music but I can't imagine today's young people or people who were in their teens from the 70's onwards buying it. It would probably sell well around Christmas time in the UK though. On second thoughts it might prevent an X-Factor star from taking the Christmas number 1 spot! Please buy Elvis this Christmas! |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Sidewinder. Date: 10 Jun 11 - 06:46 AM I hope people buy music, by our absent idols, not just to topple the X Factor cheese factory.I seem to remember there has always been a place for these undertakings though.Remember "Opportunity Knocks" and "New Faces?".Didn't they give us Lena Zaveroni and Dana and, the never to be forgotten; "Gherkin Song".I would buy Elvis all year round.I do believe he needs the money. Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 24 Nov 16 - 12:40 PM Bill Haley indeed was a couple or three years ahead of Elvis. His sole genre (at least hitwise) was Rock-a-Billy cross-over from R&B. And he twice hit with the teen anthem of the 1950s, Rock Around The Clock (also used for awhile as the theme to Happy Days tv show.) Elvis, on the other hand was the was a complete package...rock, ballads, gospel with hits in each of those musics. |

"I'm dieing for a good shit.." Apart from that.. Elvis was and is one of the greatest ever singers and the Sun to early RCA records are still fantastic...!!! 😎 |
