Subject: Tech: help with sibelius From: GUEST,stevethesqueeze Date: 11 Jan 05 - 01:12 PM I can't find out how to use Sibelius 3 just to create a single line melody with chords symbols. I can do it in Encore real easy but just can't spot how to do it with Sibelius...and I have no manual. Anyone know? stevethesqueeze |
Subject: RE: Tech: help with sibelius From: JohnInKansas Date: 11 Jan 05 - 01:50 PM Have you looked at the "Help" files? ("Help" in quotes because I have looked in my demo version.) If you have one of the demo versions, the "Help" button is often disabled. They apparently don't want you to be able to actually see what it can/can't do. If you click almost any button on the toolbar, and then hit F1 (context sensitive help, supposedly) it will usually open the help file, and you can navigate from there. Since all I've seen is the demo, I hate to guess along with you. We do have several users, so one of them should be along. John |

Subject: RE: Tech: help with sibelius From: Mitch the Bass Date: 13 Jan 05 - 05:02 PM Click "File", "New" and then select the "Treble Staff" manuscript paper. Enter the tune on the staff and to enter chord names select a note and click "select", "text", "chord symbol" or just press ctrl k. There are some significant differences in the user interface when compared with Encore which at first seem frustrating. It's worth looking at the keyboad shortcuts at: http://clem.mscd.edu/~worster/1650/Tutorials/sibeliusshortcuts.html Mitch |

Subject: RE: Tech: help with sibelius From: JohnInKansas Date: 05 Feb 05 - 04:45 PM Search: Sibelius Manual You can download a .pdf manual for the Sibelius Demo. The Demo claims to be a full installation of the program with printing and input from scanner disabled, so there shouldn't be a lot missing. The manual that comes with the program may be more thorough, but this one looks pretty good. The manual .pdf is 1,174 KB, about 32 pages. http://www.colby.edu/info.tech/howtos/specialized/sibelius.pdf (Wonder why it isn't on the Demo CD??????) IF you haven't updated your Adobe .pdf reader very recently, the new (about a month old) version 7.0 claims to speed up downloads as well as adding some other nice features. It's not a small download if you get the full version (recommended) but it does seem to work a whole lot quicker than older versions. It also patches a couple of recently discovered "vulnerabilities." Download HERE, if you're interested. Do note that when you set up the download for the reader, the box to install the "Adobe/Yahoo Toolbar" is checked by default. Be sure to uncheck it if you don't want the toolbar. You can get a "quicky version" of the reader, but the full version has some features you'll probably want later when people start using them on the web. John |
