Subject: Grateful Dead haikus

[Email from my brother]:

This was prompted by someone posting: "I want to see haikus for every year"

Many obscure references ensue, but it's worth reading the next 60 or so messages for the giggles

http://deadnetcentral.com/WebX?14@139.HsVUaaLqz7Q.9@.3b9e307d/2240

[Me again]:

After the 2d or 3d page of haiku-submissions, some of the messages get into a "how-to" discussion about writing haiku, including talk of Jack Keroac's theory of American Haiku. Some participants in the forum are notably less interested in this than others.

I'm sure that *some* of you Mudcatters will appreciate this...

My bad -- should have labelled this as "BS."

(Maybe there'd have been a response or two by now if this had been posted in the right place.)

Limericks are another matter:

A band now know as the Dead,
Were Grateful to every head
Who thought them the best
So they played without rest --
Now Garcia's an ice cream instead.

Way to go, Mandotim & Rapaire!

I was kinda hoping this would develop into a "challenge" of sorts. I had thought it most likely that the form (haiku) would be preserved while the subject matter (Dead) might change, but Rap pulled a switcheroo by contributing a Grateful Dead limerick.

All combinations and permutations are welcome, as long as they're silly.

I'd participate myself, but I'm an essayist at heart, not a poet...

These are great, the Limerick is good too.

By the way, did you hear what the Deadhead said when he ran out of dope?

This band sucks.

sorry about that......Bob

It was magic then
No use though without Jerry
They should give it up
