Completely non-folk, but anyway...

In my current job, I'm getting pretty good at extracting stuff out of various databases, and manipulating the results in various ways.

I'm up for a secondment where I'll have to do much the same thing. The difference is that I'll have to (if pushed) use Business Objects rather than MS Query and Excel. I really don't know much about Business Objects, and am having difficulty grasping why it might be better than the MS Query/Excel approach.

Any thoughts?

Ed,

You don't say what you would need it for.
It's a fairly sophisticated data-querying and -reporting software.
Far beyond what the Microsoft products can do.

PM me.

I've used it a fair bit. And have run training course for users.

As doug says, it's a much more sophisticated product than anything you'll have seen out of MS Office (no offense, Microscrote).

As this is not only non-music, but not even vaguely connected, if you'd care to drop me an email to mr_j_prufrock AT yahoo.co.uk, I'd be delighted to give you a much fuller response.

Regards

Steven

Many thanks, Doug and Steven.

My secondment doesn't start until next week, so I don't know exactly what's expected, but I'll be in touch when I know more.

Thanks again for the offers of advice. It's great to know that a couple of complete strangers are happy to offer me advice if I get stuck. (You have to love folkies!!!)

Ed
