Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Big Mick Date: 17 Oct 05 - 10:33 AM Folks, this was simply the best yet. Great friends making great music. Dani had her girls there, and the wee Ducks were charming as they could be. This is a family event, if one wants it to be. There are a lot of kids here, and some of the adults, like Ken and Dan Schatz, grew up coming to these. Too many memories to list, I will save that for Bobert's memory thread. But I will say this. Start saving now for next year. You will not regret it, and it will change your view of the music profoundly. We will be in a new camp next year. All the best, Mick |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: jimmyt Date: 16 Oct 05 - 11:46 PM Hi all, I just returned from an INCREDIBLE 2 days at the Getaway. The workshops were terrific, the jam sessions more than I could have ever hoped for, the Saturday night performance was terrific including the last big (no pun!) production number with some of the Mudcat lovelies in Lingerie that should be included in my thong catalog. Skarpi from Iceland, Niemanson from Guam, tons of English and Scottish and Welsh friends made and renewed. Canadians, folks from Alaska like KT and Ebbie, a great singer from Israel, plus the obligatory hundreds of folks from Takoma Park and Silver Spring, Maryland. My congratulations to all the folks from FSGW for a terrific weekend. I will write more tomorrow. I am too old to be up til 4 AM playing and singing! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: CarolC Date: 16 Oct 05 - 11:23 PM We have left the Getaway and are now visiting family in the area. The Ducks showed up late Friday evening, all safe and sound. This was an incredible Getaway. Overall, this was the best Getaway I've been to so far (this was my third). I'll post more on the memories thread after it gets started. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: gnu Date: 16 Oct 05 - 09:38 PM Gee whiz.... I was so hoping for info on the MISSING!!!! I have been RATHER anxious since CC's last post. RATHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: JudyB Date: 16 Oct 05 - 07:19 PM Charley slowed down enough to call around noon (well - slowed down is a bit of a misnomer - he kept phasing out as he was dashing to lunch while we talked) - said he was glad he took the extra blankets!! He also said he got to bed early - it was barely 4 am. Sounds as if everything is going great - and I'm sure I'll hear more once he's back home (though probably only after he's slept for 24 hours). Maybe next year.... JudyB |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Joe Offer Date: 16 Oct 05 - 12:03 PM I started going to the Getaways in 1999, and this one is the first I'm missed. Now that my weekend has quieted down for a few hours, I'm missing you all, and all the wonderful singing. I can't complain, though. Debby McClatchy had her annual community concert last night, and it was a perfect old-time evening. And Riggy was up here for the first time. He was a guest performer, and did a wonderful job - and gave a nice plug for Mudcat from the stage. I hope you're all having a wonderful time. Stay warm. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: wysiwyg Date: 15 Oct 05 - 10:40 PM SussexCarole had posted in the Ducks thread that she would see them Fri. AM for breakfast, so I had hoped she had seen them off-- that is, if she was not traveling with them to the G'way herself. ~S~ |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Jack the Sailor Date: 15 Oct 05 - 02:27 AM CarolC here. First evening was fantastic! But we missed the Duck family. They didn't show up, and when I last talked to others about it, nobody knew where they were. I am probably the only person who attended this evening (Friday) who has internet access, so if anyone has information, they can post it here and I'll check this thread in the morning before I head back to Ramblewood. |

O'Malley, Dotie, el Greko and Vanessa - I'm being bumped off here so I don't have time to list any others. Suffice it to say it was wonderful. Thanks, every buddy! |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: GUEST,Tinker Date: 14 Oct 05 - 07:27 AM Giok.... I took Col K and later Ranger1 to two diffferent guitar shops in town today. Rows of D'addario strings, but no silk and steel. In fact just very confused faces. The only silk and steel I could find was a set of Martins. I bought two, if you and Mick can find the illusive preferred strings, I will just keep them. Sorry Tinker See Mick I can be nice.... |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Janie Date: 13 Oct 05 - 11:51 PM Weird.... Oh! Sorry. Getting used to a 'pass along' laptop from my sweet sis, Annie, and having a good bit of awkwardness. Dani, her daughters and I hope to be on the road no later than 9:00a.m. I'm ready. I am REALLY ready for this. I don't know if most of you men know what a break this is for many of us 'married (or not), with children (or not)' women. Or maybe you do. Maybe it is very much the same for you. There is so much fun, fellowship and the sharing of ourselves with one another through our music. It is small enough to have some connection with everyone there, at least in a song. It is a large enough gathering of a remarkably diverse assortment of souls to really demonstrate how music brings people together with common purpose. In just the few brief years I have been coming, the Getaway has become an annual pilgrimage with elements of a spiritual retreat. It is an important event in my life. I am forever grateful to the FSGW. Bring items and $$ to spend for the silent auction. Vote for Pedro. Janie |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Allan C. Date: 13 Oct 05 - 02:58 PM Naemanson, let's just say that the Ramblewood staff were just a little surprised last year when I rolled in at 1 PM. I was the first and only one for a bit more than two hours. It was okay. It gave me plenty of time to put the finishing touches on my gumbo. This year I plan to be there at least a half an hour later than that. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Ferrara Date: 13 Oct 05 - 02:54 PM The official start time is 4 pm. If you're planning to help set up tables, set out chairs, etc, I guess you can arrive around 3:30 but your cabin and room assignments may not be ready by then. Don't park in front of the dumpster at the Dining Hall, the Camp gets grumpy if they can't get to it, and rightly so.... park a bit farther away, on either side of the road, until you have your cabin assignment. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: beardedbruce Date: 13 Oct 05 - 11:42 AM hung- Equivalent to wedged, but more common at Unix/C sites. ... Synonym with locked up, wedged; compare hosed. See also hang. A hung state is distinguished from crashed or down, where the program or system is also unusable but because it is not running rather than because it is waiting for something. However, the recovery from both situations is often the same. |
