Pete Lister (01363 775695) Rang me tonight and told he and John Lee are resurrecting a simplified version of the Crediton Festival. A fair number of the the usual suspects are going. It seems to be mostly a session/singaround format Based on the Lamb in Silverton. Midway twixt Crediton and Tiverton.

The feature of the Saturday night is a musical meal, though the meal is optional. Again the meal is not going to be a feast, I don't have the details but bangers and mash is the level.

4th - 6th March which is mothering Sunday so one might say it is the....... (and you can see me ducking and running already)

Mother of all Festivals

I asked the question simply because I do not know the answer.....

And I still don't - does anyone know? is there some dark scandal lurking behind this?

I visited this event twice and enjoyed both it and the village very much.

March is shaping-up to be a good month.

Crediton at the start and the Gosport & Fareham Easter Festival at the end.

Crediton details above. See www.gosportfestival.co.uk for the Gosport & Fareham information.

Hi Shambles
You better ask Pete & John for chapter and verse but, as I understand it, the reason for the change is that the main pub [was it the Ring of Bells?] in Cheriton Fitzpaine changed landlords and the new guy wasn't keen and then he decided to use the barn for something else.
Since then they have been looking for another suitable village and have been trying to deal with issues of entertainment licences, insurance and the Performing Rights mafia, etc...

Thanks Alan.

That is sad - I suppose I expected it to be something like this - but there was more than the one pub invoved in the village - I thought.

Are you suggesting that the Crediton Festival be held in France? Or somewhere abroad that does not place so many official hurdles in our way?

What overnight accomodation is available - don't fancy a tent this early in March!

GUEST, Barbara - I don't think they have a website.

GUEST - at the last one in 2003 there was indoor camping at the village hall in Cheriton Fitzpaine, and hard standing for campers/caravans. I imagine similar arrangements will be in place this year.

But I can't guarantee that.

Thought I'd refresh this since it's this coming weekend.

BTW Having spoken to Pete he said it's a much scaled down version of their previous events. They have negotiated with a local farmer who has agreed to let people park camper vans on one of his fields and there will be a room at the pub which after the singaround has finished can be used for indoor camping.

By the sound of it, space for indoor camping is likely to be limited so if you are thinking of going it would be a good idea to ring him first.

"after the singaround has finished can be used for indoor camping" - so no early nights then!

Hope it goes well and you all have a great time. Only sorry that previous commitments mean I can't be with you.
