Subject: Lasairfhiona Ni Conghaile From: GUEST,Com Seangan Date: 26 Jan 05 - 12:40 PM Could anyone tell me if they heard this girl from Inis Oirr and what type of voice she has. Is she like Caitlin Maude or Maire Colman or who ? I know I can look at the blurb on her CD. But I have much more faith in the informed opinions of people on this site. |

Subject: RE: Lasairfhiona Ni Conghaile From: GUEST,folkiefrank Date: 26 Jan 05 - 02:11 PM hi Com, I'm assuming that it's L. Ni Chonaola who you mean. I'm actually listening to her CD at the moment, trying to hear similarities.....a young Dolores Keane, Rita Connolly, Niamh Parsons....but she has her own style is all I can say. Buy the CD, you won't regret it! |

Subject: RE: Lasairfhiona Ni Conghaile From: mooman Date: 26 Jan 05 - 02:14 PM Quite a fresh light voice but with character, not sure I can equate it with anyone else in particular but it certainly suits the songs which are all in her native Irish. I like the CD a lot. Peace moo |

Subject: RE: Lasairfhiona Ni Conghaile From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 26 Jan 05 - 02:19 PM I've played her CD on my shows as well. I hate comparing any artist with another (if they sound too much alike, there is something wrong!). I think it is a lovely CD and she has an inspiring voice. |

Subject: RE: Lasairfhiona Ni Conghaile From: GUEST,Com Seangan Date: 26 Jan 05 - 02:43 PM Thanks everyone. I will go ahead and buy the CD. Yes Conghaile or Conaola or Cionnfhaoliadh has a variety of spellings for the same name. You couldn't fire a stone on Inis Oirr without hitting a Conneely. I take Ron Olesko's point about not comparing singers. But personally, I just can't help it!! Some (most) are in some ways inflenced by others - some more true, some traditional singers do themselves more justice without the electronic help of microphone etc. But I do appreciate all the comments. |

Subject: RE: Lasairfhiona Ni Conghaile From: GUEST,Peter O'Mara Date: 27 Jan 05 - 02:00 PM I am a Blues musican but I think one of the few that likes and buys this type of music and yes it's a fine CD. If you like this lady, I would also highly recommend the quite stunning voice of Sinead Stone. The album "Legacy Of A Quiet Man" by Sinead and Gerard Farrelly is really special and different too. The songs, were written by Gerard's father, Dick Farrelly. Best known for songs like , "The Isle of Innisfree", and "We Dreamed our Dreams". The website is www.stoneandfarrelly.com |
