Subject: Old Thread Searching - Can it be done? From: karen k Date: 28 Nov 98 - 01:37 PM Just curious, because I've recently seen several responses to questions that, 'that was once discussed in a thread'. Is there any way to search (and if so, to then access an old thread that no longer comes up on the list) to see if a question or request has been previously discussed? It seems to me, if we could do that, then duplication would be avoided, people might find what they are looking for more quickly, and more space would be available for new topics. Just a thought. What do you all think? Max, could it be done? karen k |

Subject: RE: Thread Search From: karen k Date: 28 Nov 98 - 02:03 PM Oops! Think the Forum Search does pretty much what I'm thinking of. Noticed it when I was logging out and tried it. Also, thanks to The Shambles for pointing it out so quickly. Is there any way to eliminate a thread when it is not really necessary? karen k

Subject: RE: Thread Search From: Alice Date: 28 Nov 98 - 04:02 PM Just a note, Karen, I noticed today when I did a forum search, that Many, many threads no longer come up when I search for something that I know I posted in the last year. I used to be able to access all the messages I had posted before, but no longer can do that. |

Subject: RE: Thread Search From: Barry Finn Date: 28 Nov 98 - 04:22 PM Alice, try pulling them up by using only the authors' name. It worked a little better for me (much longer though). Trouble is if it's not you tryying to remember who posted to that thread. Barry |

Subject: RE: Thread Search From: Joe Offer Date: 28 Nov 98 - 11:42 PM Hi, Karen - the threads (discussion topics) and messages generally stay there once they're posted. Some get lost in crashes sometimes, but that's rare. If you post a message and later have regrets, post a message in the same thread, asking that the message be removed, and both the message and the request will be deleted by mysterious Mudcatteers with "edit" buttons - or by me, the only one known to have admitted to having such a button. Or you can send me a personal message and ask me to fix your goof. The messages above are better left as they are - they may help somebody learn. -Joe Offer- |
