In tear stained letter Richard Thompson sings" She danced on my head like Arthur Murray" I heard on the radio recently that Arthur Murray was a tv dance tutor in America in the 50s. Was he known in England also?

Not as such I think. But there was an Arthur Murray School of Ballroom Dancing which was always advertising in magazines. Never on TV though, I'm pretty sure.

I think that the Arthur Murray of the dancing schools was either dead or a very old man by the time TV came around.

We remember seeing him dance on TV so he wasn't dead (or at least he didn't look dead). But he was quite old.

One of us actually attended one of his franchised dancing schools but it didn't take. Still can't dance.
