Subject: Any new Bluegrass CD's to recommend ?

I recently picked up the new CD by the Nashville Bluegrass Band - called 20 Year Blues. It's been in my CD player almost non-stop since I got it. Here's why:

It's not overproduced - some Bluegrass { IN MY OPINION } can sound a little slick. This one has a nice raw edge to it but it doesn't sound sloppy. Very professional picking. And the singing is quite good too. Some bluegrass voices are not polished but that doesn't bother me in the least.

Next - they haven't forgotten that the blues are a big part of bluegrass. I can see someone that loves the blues but doesn't think they like bluegrass could be won over by this recording.

Last - Since I play the mandolin I always look for recordings with lots of mandolin content - and Mike Compton is one of the best - again - in my opinion.

Other bands I've been listening to lately are Blue Highway and John Reichman and the Bluejays.

So - what are y'all listening to lately ?? Details please.

we are producing a concert by John Reichman and the Bluejays on feb. 17 in chico. one of our last concerts was the duo Megan Lynch and Ron Stewart. They were great as twin fiddles, and all the other instruments. they both are in several bands. There is a c.d. coming out soon on Sugarhill by a group of canadian youngsters called the Duhks
pronounced ducks...http://www.sugarhillrecords.com/
Chris Thiele from Nickel Creek has the hot mando licks down...
you might want to give him or them a listen...he has one recording
with mike marshall that is inspiring...Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum have a new one out called Guest House...his mandolin playing is always superb.
there are lots of old-timey mandolin players too. i tend to lprefer that style...usually not a slicked up polished and orchestrated...
Sam Bush is another mandolin player extraordinaire..try King of my World by him....and last but not least the Chris Stuart and Back Country "unit" Saints and Strangers with the surprising song: Twenty Naked Pentecostals in a Pontiac. it was recorded at New Wine Studios.

The one I liked most was "Picture in a tear" with Wyatt Rice & Santa Cruz-well, it's new to my collection.
The recent Alison Krause was perfect - great production, flawless pickin' 'n' singin',not a single song that made me want to get the guitar out and play along - excellent but dull.Pity, 'cos I really like 'em.

Take a look at CMT's web site "listening parties" - James King, Kimg Wilkie. Allison and others are there to listen to - not too bad.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've been meaning to pick up the King Wilke CD. Maybe this weekend. The Peter Rowan/Tony Rice sounds interesting too. It sounds like Elderly will be getting a call soon.
