Subject: Folklore: Oktoberfest, Dance - How to Ploddle?

I used to be a member of a dance group. We were amateur professional, that is, we danced out of enthusiasm but did in fact do gigs. We danced German and Russian folk. My purpose here is to find out if there are good dance resources on the web and in particular is there one that can describe the 'ploddle' which is a portion of Oktoberfest dancing where the men slap their knees and heels in a musical pattern. I can remember how to start the ploddle but I can't remember how to get through it. Did a brief web search which didn't go anywhere, and I'm wondering now if I'm spelling it correctly or missing an umlaut or something. (Actually, I've been told that I've been missing an umlaut for some time).

Thanks

The correct German name is "Schuhplattler", maybe that helps in your search.

dancilla lists some videos of Schuhplattlers.

Ups, doesnt work.
You have to put "Schuhplattler" (without the quotes) in the "Dance name" box and click on the OK button.

MudGuard (from Munich, hometown of the original Octoberfest)

Mudguard: Danke Schon! Thank you so much. It's a little interesting that the site welcomed me by name, how'd it do that?

That is the image that comes from the amazon.com server. You are probably a registered user of amazon.com - with a cookie on your computer which identifies your computer to amazon.com (you don't have to login when you go to amazon.com) - thus amazon.com knows your name and puts it into that image.

The dancilla webserver does NOT know your name.
