There is a song called "Tonight It Has Just Stopped Raining" which I have on a recording by Australia's Glen Tomasetti and Martyn Wyndham-Read, when he lived in Melbourne. It was recorded about 1961/2. My understanding is that it's a Danish song, though its structure sounds as though it could have started life as a Drawing Room ballad? Any info gladly accepted.

"Tonight It Has Just Stopped Raining (Denmark)" is in A Second Book of Folk-Songs - Engel Lund (Oxford University Press 1949).

Despite the innocuous lyrics (as translated), Glen Tomasetti used to introduce it as a WW11 resistance song.

Thanks Masato and Margret. So it's a folksong then. How old?

For Margret:
I got the recording from Malcolm (J) Turnbull whom you recently caught up with in Tas (he's written a page for my CD booklet and sings on a track as well). You and I both sang at Emerald Hill, though not on the same dates. "Lakeman" is my Mudcat name. You'll see my photo in Trad&Now in Malcolm's article about the early days, I forget which edition. I'm the kid down the bottom left hand page with the caption "DH c.1963".

Subject: Lyr Add: DET HAVER SÅ NYLIGEN REGNET
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 13 Feb 10 - 11:38 PM

TONIGHT IT HAS JUST STOPPED RAINING appears on the album "Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go?" (1965) by Martyn Wyndham-Read, Brian Mooney, and Glen Tomasetti.

TONIGHT IT HAS JUST STOPPED RAINING is said to be a translation of a Danish song DET HAVER SAA NYLIGEN REGNET (or, in modern spelling, DET HAVER SÅ NYLIGEN REGNET). However, there are 2 sets of lyrics for this old tune, and I don't know which one was used:

(1) Words by Svend Grundtvig, 1861, copied from http://www.ugle.dk/det_haver_saa_nyligen_regnet_1.html:

Det haver så nyligen regnet,
og de træer, de dryppe endnu.
Hvasse vind, tjørnen stind har dig såret,
de har revet din kåbe itu.
Men trods regn og trods blæst
og trods storm af nordvest
stander jeg dig dog alle tider næst!

Jeg kan se på de øjne så klare,
at du haver for nyligen grædt.

Lad dem blomstre i ly!
lad dem svæve ved sky!
de kan ej få min angest til at fly!

Nu i morgen, når solen står højest,
for din moder jeg stedes med bøn,
mæler blidt, spørger frit: Kære moder!
må jeg være din trofaste søn?
Se, det lysner i sky!
hør, det ringer fra by!
du er min, som for evig jeg er din!

(2) Words by Johan Ottosen, 1890, copied from http://www.ugle.dk/det_haver_saa_nyligen_regnet_2.html:

nye stridsmænd skal her

mangen eg er for uvejret segnet,
men endda er vi frejdige i hu;

Musical notation for DET HAVER SAA NYLIGEN REGNET can be seen in Folke-sange og melodier, faedrelandske og fremmede, samlede og udsatte for pianoforte, Volume 1 edited by Andreas Peter Berggreen (Kjöbenhavn: Gyldendalske Boghandling, 1860), page 220:
