Subject: Lyric request - 'Soy Libre'
From: GUEST,Jerry Clement

Hello all...

When Dave Guard left the original Kingston Trio he formed a quartet - D.G. & the Whiskeyhill Singers. They only lasted one album's-worth, but on it was a wonderful Argentine song, "Soy Libre". I know how it goes, but I don't know the lyrics (in Spanish). Can anyone hopefully help me out? I'd be much appreciative. Thanks
--- Jerry Clement ---

Does it have this verse?
Yo soy libre en mi verso y él es libre
como yo.
Nos amanos.
Nos tenemos.

I'm afraid Judy Henske's diction isn't very good. I hear "soy libre, soy dueño," and that's about it, with lots of "la-la's."
The qalbum, Dave Guard and the Whiskeyhill Singers came out in April, 1964. The quarted included Dave Guard, Cyrus Faryar, David "Buck" Wheat, and Judy Henske. Faryar was an old high school friend of Guard, and standup bassist Wheat had been an accompanist for the Kingston Trio.
But no, I can't figure out the lyrics. I listened three times. the notes don't say much, other than it's a traditional bahuala from the Argentine Andes.

Joe, listen to Octavio Cortelan on Folkways. Much more traditional. No la-la-la stuff.

Can't find the lyrics yet.

"Soy Libre" = "I get my vegetable protein for free!"
