Subject: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Richard Bridge Date: 04 Feb 05 - 08:16 PM A friend is trying to sell his two pristine Taylors - a 512CE and a 315CE - both well set up for the driving fingerstyle player by a very very good local guitar tech. Both as new and possibly better in that they are starting to have a little age on the sound, and have been properly set up by a man who knows how to cure the usual Taylor fret rattle without creating an action that is too high. Looking for about two thirds of RRP for both. Those with serious interest, PM me. |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: GUEST Date: 07 Feb 05 - 11:21 AM No such thing as 2 Goood Taylors! |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Richard Bridge Date: 07 Feb 05 - 12:10 PM Well, to be honest, the purpose of the sale is to get a Gibson... But, as Taylors go (and some people do like them) these are pretty good, and very pristine. |

Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Steve-o Date: 07 Feb 05 - 07:42 PM Just exactly WHAT Gibson is worth two Taylors?? |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Richard Bridge Date: 08 Feb 05 - 02:48 PM Well, top of the list at the moment is the re-issue 1936 Advanced Jumbo, but some of the J200s might also do. All with 25 1/2 scale length Some folks like Taylors - some don't. Some folks don't like Gibsons - some do. Seems a shame to wish it on the forum, but is Martian Gibbon about? |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: GUEST,Cumbrian Date: 08 Feb 05 - 06:21 PM Richard, Your friend might be interested to know that there is an Advanced Jumbo limited edition Brazilian rosewood at Sound Control in Glasgow, lovely guitar and very well priced for a brazilian r/w guitar. Taylors, Gibsons, Martins, Fyldes, what the heck, I like them all. |

Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Richard Bridge Date: 09 Feb 05 - 05:51 PM But not coming up on their website. When I've sold the Taylors, I'll phone, but I have noticed the Advanced Jumbos seem to be walking off the shelves here in the UK at the moment - even at UK prices. |

Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Once Famous Date: 09 Feb 05 - 08:06 PM Ah, Richard Bridge. Either Gibson you mentioned is worthy of two or more of those Taylor guitars that have about as much soul as a white man eating a mayonaise sandwich on white bread. The J-200 or AJ will thrill you to know in in a traditional Gibson sunburst finish. They are as good as it gets with the Gibson line. |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: GUEST,Cumbrian Date: 10 Feb 05 - 06:21 AM Richard, The Sound Control website never seems to reflect the actual stock in stores around the country. I suspect that this site is geared more towards the popular box shifter approach to music sales. The guy who looks after the acoustic section in Glasgow is called Sandy Cairns, an knowledgeable and excellent chap to deal with. There are usually quite a few Gibsons, Martins ( including a lovely D45V ), and other stuff ( including a huge selection of Taylors ). |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: kendall Date: 10 Feb 05 - 06:45 AM I don't care for the smaller Taylors but I'll put my 810 up against any Martin or Gibson you care to drag out. When I bought the Taylor I had a Martin HD 28 and a Gibson J-45 (an old one) but the Taylor is so superior that I sold the Martin and gave the Gibson to a friend. It takes more than a famous name to impress me. |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 10 Feb 05 - 11:01 AM I'll put my Lowden up against anything :0) |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: kendall Date: 10 Feb 05 - 12:19 PM Considering the distance, you will never have to put it up against my Taylor! (Actually, your Lowden needn't take a back seat to any) |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 10 Feb 05 - 12:29 PM Hey there matey! Knew I could get a response! You never know, Kendall - I might just make it over there, one day, one day.......! All the best mate, hope you're on the up and up health-wise, and my very best to the good lady. See ya! S:0) |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Steve-o Date: 10 Feb 05 - 04:18 PM Bess Hawes told me that Woody always had Gibsons because you could leave them in the rain and bounce them off the subway concrete and they wouldn't break.....and they sounded the same. Yessir, that's 'soul' for ya. |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Richard Bridge Date: 10 Feb 05 - 04:58 PM Well, first, I did PM Amos. I'm in south east England and looking for about two thirds of UK RRP on the Taylors. PM me if you are serious. They will probably go on ebay this weekend, and I notice the prices there on Taylors seem to be very firm. My friend is the player in question (I have a Martin OM1, a Mugen THE 78, two very different Hagstrom J-45s, a Hagstrom BJ12E, and the camping guitar (a Morris) and am sorted for the time being). He simply does not feel "inspired" by the Taylors and has felt "inspired" by certain Gibsons in the past. I'd say that Gibsons do have a very distinct personality, and I tend to like the J-50s, although I one played a Gospel I liked. The J-200s seem to me to differ a lot from each other. The common factor for those being aimed at is the long scale length which I think adds tuning stability and an almost piano-like quality to the notes. Funny that I hate pianos on folk (Early Jerry Lee Lewis and early Little Richard are OK on piano though) but like that guitar sound. To me the Taylor "family noise" seems sort of to twang and jangle. Of these two the 512 has that characteristic Taylor sound (rounded a bit since it is no longer new), and the 315 seems less shimmery and a bit more woody so I like it more - and I like the big bottom end on it. Anyway Martin, it's nice not to be shouting at each other (for a change). |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: kendall Date: 10 Feb 05 - 07:59 PM Never judge a Taylor until you have played a top of the line model. Would you judge all Martins by the sound of a OOO18? |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 11 Feb 05 - 07:53 AM ABSOLUTELY NOT!! (And yes, I'm shouting!) LOL! |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: GUEST,Jim Date: 11 Feb 05 - 08:47 AM Personally, I wouldn't put my Lowden up alongside any Taylor - it might catch something |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Mooh Date: 11 Feb 05 - 10:25 AM It's a good thing all guitars are different or there would be no GAS, and GAS sustains me. An aside...During a visit to Elderly a few years ago the whole store practically stopped when a certain Taylor koa model (top back and sides) was played. It would number in my top ten. But here's the rub, another identical model might or might NOT have that sound. It certainly made up for my previous impression that Taylors don't project well. I find myself judging guitars by what's most familiar, so my own guitars make that standard. However, there are ones which got away, like the aforementioned Taylor, Gurian, Beneteau, one or two others. Sometimes I forget why God lets me have a credit card! Peace, Mooh. |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: number 6 Date: 11 Feb 05 - 10:47 AM Guest Jim .... I know what you mean, I certainly wouldn't want my Taylor catchin a bout of sound rot of a Lowden!!! Actually I wouldn't mind getting a hold of a Lowden. As Mooh states, guitars are subjective (and there would be no GAS). I have a Taylor 310 that is absoulutely exceptional in tone, depth and range. I've played a Taylor 810, that doesn't match it. sIx |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Richard Bridge Date: 11 Feb 05 - 11:44 AM Curiously, I had another friend who loved his giant Tak to death. I thought it sounded like a banjo! |
Subject: RE: For Sale - two GOOOD Taylors From: Once Famous Date: 11 Feb 05 - 11:52 AM Taks are wonderful serving trays for sushi. |
