Hello
Anyone know any recordings of songs telling the Morte d'Arthur story? (the death of King Arthur). And indeed any recordings about the Knights of the Round table would be great too.
Many thanks

If you put King Arthur, into the Lyrics & Knowledge Search box up at the top, you can find all sorts of things here at the Mudcat. Enjoy the songs and the message threads.

Some of the Child Ballads are on CD, and some of the threads you might want to call up will be about Child Ballads.

ah yes, Rick Wakeman - Myths & Legends of King Arthur & the Knights of the Round Table - a fantastic album, one of my all time favourites and a masterpiece.

david arkenstone has also done an album called Avalon with his wife Dianne, which is an instrumental album with fiddles, etc, that is also very good

I know there's a Child Ballad about Sir Gawaine and the loathely lady.
It is also the subject of an excellent novel, "In Camelot's Shadow" by Sarah Zettel, who used the mudcat to research her book.

Well, the songs on the Arthurian legends that I find right off are
  • Marriage of Sir Gawaine
  • King Arthur and King Cornwall
  • Lady of Shalott

  • Be sure to see this thread (click), which has a recent song on the death of Arthur - that's the only song I could find on Arthur's death.

Maddy Prior put out a concept album called, I think, Arthur The King, a couple of years ago.

Myths and Legends - definitely a great album. I thought 'Merlin' was one of the best tracks but the whole thing was terrific.

Thanks everyone! will deffo follow up on the Rick Wakeman album, through one of the threads I found a mention of Arnold Bax, a classical composer into his Arthurian and Celtic legends, so that sounds v. promising too...

Not sure this song by Nick Kier is what you're after, but have a look: Avalon

Not sure if the OP is still looking, but my website is now at www.annelister.com and yes, I do indeed have a number of songs about King Arthur, one of which is about his alleged death. He isn't dead, of course. Just very, very, very fast asleep somewhere. Possibly Avalon. Or Barry Island.
