Subject: RE: The Cackle (DeZurick) Sisters yodeling From: Big Jim from Jackson Date: 23 Feb 08 - 11:34 AM I, too, would like to hear more about and from the DeZurick sisters. I have played them on my radio show, but the recordings are not of the best quality. I know that recording techniques were not very good back when they were performing. If other material is available, I would be interested in getting some of it. |
Subject: RE: The Cackle (DeZurick) Sisters yodeling From: Bill D Date: 23 Feb 08 - 10:55 AM Hello, Dawn...it's always nice to hear from someone who knows an artist we know little about. Can you tell us more about your grandmother and the duo? Do you play that guitar? |

Subject: RE: The Cackle (DeZurick) Sisters yodeling From: GUEST,dawn Date: 23 Feb 08 - 03:49 AM It is nice to know that people are still listening and are curious about the dezurick sisters. Mary jane is my grandmother. I have her original gibson guitar, and my father ( her son ) has many cassette tapes of her singing, along with other memorabilia....thank you! |
Subject: RE: The Cackle (DeZurick) Sisters yodeling From: Severn Date: 26 Oct 07 - 05:28 PM I happen to have a souvenier booklet that I was once given that has pictures of The Cackle Sisters in it as well as other acts that played Valley View Park near Hellam PA in the summer of 1941. Entitled "Prairie Pals Album W-O-R-K--York, PA" it was put out by the Prairie Pals, a band that played on radio station WORK (along with The Western Vagabonds), ran the park and served as hosts to nationally known touring acts. There are pictures of the acts themselves along with obligitory joint posings with the Pals and Vagabonds. Besides the Cackle Sisters, there are photos of The Girls Of The Golden West, Lulu Belle & Scotty, The Dinning Sisters, The Georgia Wildcats, Roy Rogers, The Sons Of The Pioneers and Ken Maynard and his horse Tarzan. It also contains summer vacation pictures from Shorty Fincher of the Pals, pictures from the WORK company picnic and blank pages in the back of the book to put your own photos and autographs you might have gotten from the stars. In all, quite an interesting period piece. I can Xerox photos and text on any acts on request. PM me if interested. |

Subject: RE: The Cackle (DeZurick) Sisters yodeling From: Bill D Date: 25 Oct 07 - 06:07 PM I'm refreshing this old thread because I found a source to listen to the DeZurik sisters...*evil grin* at WFMU radio archives. WFMU will play almost anything. These sisters have one of the most...ummm...'distinctive' styles you'll ever hear.*more evil grinning* For more of WFMU, look here but **TURN OFF LOADING IMAGES FIRST!!** as there are a couple thousand images on that long page, and your browser will bog down. |

Subject: RE: The Cackle (DeZurick) Sisters yodeling From: GUEST,Bob Coltman Date: 08 Feb 05 - 06:43 PM If anyone wants recordings of Caroline and Mary Jane DeZurik aka the Cackle Sisters, let me recommend you a better, higher-quality source. Write: Joe Bussard, 6610 Cherry Hill Drive, Frederick, MD 21701 and ask for his catalog of this group. Joe has the DeZuriks' issued recordings, plus at least one set of radio transcription recordings. The DeZuriks chose a great trademark gimmick with their chicken-cluck yodeling (nobody else does anything like it), were great 30s harmony singers and radio stars, and deserve to be better known. Check out their "I Left Her Standing There," a Carson Robison song that shows their winning style and pert harmonies. Bob |

Subject: The Cackle (DeZurick) Sisters yodeling From: Big Jim from Jackson Date: 07 Feb 05 - 10:53 PM Somebody markets a cassette tape of these girls from the old Ralston/Purina radio show. Do any of you "Caters know of a source of that tape? Or any other recording format. This tape has a number of songs on it. It is not the best tape in the world, since many of the songs and intros to the songs are a bit clipped, but it still is a fantastic tape. Those girls sure could yodel! I'm trying to find this for a friend, and any help you can give would be most appreciated. Thanks. |
