the street is there if you ever visit paree & numerous other tributes to a great bluesman who lived it & deserved every accolade he got & more - to the guy who said hed rather be alive than have a airport named after him - yup mate total agreement - they can name the local whorehouse after me [ as long as none of the bitches blab ] but to be honest paul probably is pissed of cos as the last surviving beatle with half a talent hes got all the shit whereas ringo got at least to be thomas the tank engine, & to the g. man thanks for the 2 sets at the bardney festival in 1972 i saw you many times after that but you made me a rock & blues fan for life

Thank you. That's a great map. And I'm never going out that far (I don't really call that Paris) but it's nice to know that it's there.

By the way, does a musical plumber play the pipes? And is that joke painfully obvious?

Paul can console himself with the realization that he's alive and John ain't.

Given a choice between sucking air and having an airport named for my dead self, I'd opt for survival.

Thank you, people, for your help. These little mysteries can be irritating. So it's out in les banlieues. I doubt if I'll ever be there but now I know that the guy who talked about the Pompidou and Rue de Rivoli was talking nonsense. Thanks again.

But on the susbject of naming places after musicians, I was recently passing through Liverpool airport which is named after John Lennon. There's even a statue (bronze, I think) of the great man. And I thought, does Paul McCartney ever pass through here and does it piss him off?

Often, when a street is "named" for a deceased celebrity, only a single block (or other short segment) of an existing street is renamed. It's a nice honor for the dear departed one, but not helpful to travelers because only the original name of the street (of the whole street) is shown on maps.

Examples: Dave Van Ronk Street in Manhattan (one block of the street where Dave lived ~ Bleeker?), Jack Keroac Street in San Francisco (at the corner of Columbus Ave. where City Lights Bookstore is located).

Here in New Orleans, the single block of Chartres Street between St. Louis Cathedral and Jackson Square was renamed "John Paul II Place" years ago, to commemorate the Pope's visit, but very few people even know that any more. There's a street sign with the new name, but little else. No business or residential addresses use the honorific street name; only three buildings face the street on that block, the Cathedral and two museums, all known as being located "on Jackson Square," not at addresses on either Chartres Street or John Paul Place.

Now, dead politicians and generals get the entire lengths of streets named after them, and their names do appear on maps. But poets, musicians, clerics and other such harmless types? Forget about it!

Apparently it's in the Paris suburb of Ris Orangis, and is the street which housed the venue of Gallagher's last French appearance.

C-flat.

I have been told that there is a street in Paris named after Rory Gallagher – 'Rue de Rory Gallagher'. I've never come across it and I can't find it in any map. It has been suggested that it is 'somewhere between the Pompidiou Centre and Rue de Rivoli'.

Can anyone tell me where this street is or what its previous name was?
