Always zillions of utilikilts at the Art Car Parade. I'm not sure why except that kilts are still a novelty in the U.S. and the Art Car Parade specializes in Counterculture for the Whole Family.

I don't think leather anything sounds like a good idea, especially in the summer, but beyond that, I always think men look great in kilts.

I was at the Oak Park Highland Games a couple of weeks ago, enjoying the scenery. Though the guy in the leather kilt was a bit disconcerting. (That CAN'T be comfortable!)
Then I saw him. His kilt was orange and black on a white background. I think the sett was Ancient Upchuck, if that wasn't bad enough, the man wearing it was only slightly taller than he was wide. Then, to add insult to injury, when he bent over you could see his depend undergarment. It didn't QUITE put me off men in kilts.

Any member of a Clan be he Clansman or "Broken Man" of the Clan had the automatic right of audience with the Clan Chief. As assassinations were not uncommon it was considered reasonable for anyone going in to see the Clan Chief should be unarmed. Where are you?
Here in Edinburgh, a good kilt, ie one made to measure in a sensible weight tartan, will cost about £300, and you will have to wait 2-8 weeks for it, depending on time of year, and which firm you went to. I would imagine you would pay about the same, or a little more all over the UK, but they'll be harder to find. Elsewith, I know nothing more than google does...

BTW, do not even think about getting one if you live within range of Scotrail. Sitting for almost 2 hours in a kilt is not comfortable at all. And the actual journey is about 5 miles as the crow flies. Grrrrr.....

Since Woodsie has chosen to reprise this thread, let me explain that the kilt is by definition A TROUSER. (That's why pants are a PAIR of TROUSERS!) The sporran is a purse worn on the front of the kilt so that we can make sure than anybody else's hand that is in that area has our best intentions at heart. The sgian dubh is for dealing with those whose hands are there with bad intent and for those who dare to call it a skirt.

Knights of Columbus Hall in Davison, Michigan if yer interested. They promised to have good beer on tap. We drained two barrels of Guinness last year by around 8:30. They said they were out of Guinness, so we asked if they'd get the good beer out then. Nope - Miller Lite after that... Oh well.

My wife used to build kilts professionally. She always recomended 13 oz material for dancers. Sixteen is too hot, stiff, and heavy for dancing.
Eleven oz is hard to work with, and it flies around too much (sorry, lassies). The kilt pin should be heavy enough to add a little control to the swing of the kilt. It does not close the kilt, but merely pins to one edge. A properly executed kwt can still be exciting, though.

There are little tiny lead weights available for curtains, and I understand that the Queen has a similar thing sewn into the hem of her skirts to prevent any 'Marilyn Munroe' moments.... basically a lot of tiny lead beads tied together in even spacing, they're inserted into hems to make them hang heavier.

Well, they really don't feel right unless they're a heavy fabric. If you try moving in a light weight one, they go everywhere. Why do you think all the non tartan ones are heavy fabrics: non-tartan wool, pvc, leather etc. Of course, if you could find 16 oz silk, it could well work...

I'm just a dancer, so need to be able to move in them, but the millitary kilts, and the ones the bands wear are even heavier than normal ones.
