Aye, Bob, I was hoping for that as well. And some good songs are posted here. But no harm done. It's so easy now to just click and respond--... Think about a Tom Paxton concert where instant feedback could be flashed to all. I'm sure there are lawyers who were offended by his ONE MILLION LAWYERS song.

Maybe, Mary ought to send a snailmail letter to Max about this thread. Then Max can post it if he wants to in a Letters To The Editor section of this site.

As I said, it's good to find you here.

Onward and upward,

Art

Art,

Just a word to say I can really sympathize with you over the negative responses you've been getting to a great suggestion.

"The Infamous 'W' Thread: Bush Songs," which I started earlier in the month, also got slammed--and brought very little real creative response. It's curious how putting something out there, in hopes of fostering new stuff, brings out the worst in some people. I can only suppose there's a lot of floating rage out there just waiting for a target, however innocent.

I think you and I have both been hoping for a sort of workshopping response, where people would be tolerant, not nitpick, but steer close to the goal of getting some simple rhymes out there that might help tunnel under this regime with ridicule. The mouse and the elephant.

I'd like to think it still can happen. My brain's dry on the subject of Condi right now, but I'm thinking. Best as ever, Bob

Can't anyone read? The first place "whore" is mentioned is in the lyrics posted by Guest Frank and he says "Don't call her a whore".

In this country, where this language originated, "don't" means "do not".

Why is it less offensive to use the word whore to describe a man? Why is it more concerning for me to use it because i am young? I do understand what it means, and when it would be innapropriate. I do not use it as freely as you might assume...as i said before, i think it is a useful metaphor, and in the circumstances where i might want to use such language are precisely the same circumstances where i might feel a bit of shock treatment was called for. Also , i don't understand how addressing one woman as a whore degrades the rest of us.

Nice one, Art, but it's already been done by Steve Earle! Called "Condi, Condi" it's on his latest album, "The Revolution Starts Now".

He uses a tune with a calypso feel to it. Here are the lyrics.

Condi, Condi (Steve Earle)

Oh Condi Condi beggin' on my knees
Open up your heart and let me in wontcha please
Got no money but everybody knows
I love you Condi and I'll never let you go
Sweet and dandy pretty as can be
You be the flower and I'll be the bumble bee
Oh she loves me oops she loves me not
People say you're cold but I think you're hot

Oh, Condi, Condi
Oh, Condi, Condi

Oh Condi, Condi I'm talkin' to you girl
What's it gonna hurt come on give me a whirl
Shake your body now let me see you go
One time for me Oh Condi I love you so
Skank for me Condi show me what you got
They say you're too uptight I say you're not
Dance around me spinnin' like a top
Oh Condi Condi Condi don't ever stop

Oh Condi Condi Can't you hear me call
I'm standin' in the street outside your garden wall
Pocketful of money belly full of wine
Condi in my heart and romance on my mind
Listen to me Condi don't be afraid
I come here tonight to chase your blues away
I'll never hurt you I'll treat you right
Oh Condaleeza won't you come out tonight

Pretty little Condi precious as can be
Bet you never had another lover like me

Pete

Hi Nathan in Texas,

Always enjoy a good dialogue.

(And here's another point-of-view using the same racist tune, Old Uncle Ned)

There's a little lady and her name is Condi Rice
And she parrots our Party Line.
She's known for her rhetoric and slippery tongue
And she's known as Bush's clinging vine.

We on the right always walk in the light
And we love our negros like pets.
That's why we promote them and give them their due
So that liberals will have their regrets.

But our Condoleeza is lying just a little
And only like a sieve for the press.
We don't want her to be humble and tell the truth
We want her just like Bush in a dress.

Although our Bush just barely squeaked through,
He sent young Americans to war,
We on the right gave a patriotic cheer.
And the troops started dying some more.

And so our brave young soldiers are fighting for our cause
Bush's Liberty and Freedom's growing tide.
And we can make our case for the whole white race
While Condi lied................and they died.

Another view.

(To the tune, vaguely, of the verse for "Old Uncle Ned.")

There's a dark eyed lady and her name is Condi Rice;
Does it seem, does it seem right to you?
She will not bow to us folk on the left
Like all dark eyed ladies ought to do.

We've always taken care of the dark eyed souls;
We love 'em; they should thank us can't you see;
We give a helping hand and they ought to toe the line
Of the Dems and the N Double A C P

We on the left we know what is best
For the dark eyed humans in our land;
If they start thinking and doing for themselves
Things could really start getting out of hand.

But Doctor Condeleeza won't dance to our tune;
She won't let us pat her little head;
She won't parrot any of our liberal lines,
But thinks for herself instead.

I thought, when Bush won his landslide in '04,
Of establishing Canadian residence;
Now I fear that my world might surely fall apart
Condi Rice might be our next president.

Notice that she was not called a whore in the parody.

It was left intentionally ambiguous.

I think it should be hands off their race. And no woman, including those in that career path, should be called a whore, unless they specifically request it. Lady of the evening sounds so much nicer. When any women are freely called that, all of us suffer, some more than others. When a woman with no taint of personal scandle about her is called that, society is so sick it might not survive. mg

I agree, Mary, that our current Sec'y Of State hasn't done anything to merit being called a "whore" -- except in the POLITICAL sense (which can apply to all sorts of politicians of both genders).

As for mentioning her race, it seems to me it's the Republicans who keep bringing that up and throwing it in the face of anyone who has the audacity to question her competence, credibility, or integrity.   Republicans can call the Clintons, the Kerrys, or any other Democrat just about any name in the book, but say something critical of a Hispanic or black Republican and Bush crony and you're labelled a "racist." I think THAT's what makes some racial references in song parodies legitimate.
We're pretty much being told by the Bushies and by the press that it's "hands off" if you happen to be a minority AND a Republican.

I don't think I am done yet. I don't think references to her race are within the bounds of decency, and I don't think references to her virtue and/or private life are...they are so far out of bounds...referring to any woman as a whore is just plain not done..even though can say I told you not to call her one...This is really sick. Her politics are fair game of course, but sometimes, and this seems to be a time, there is some social permission granted to abuse or ridicule or..the words for this pathology escape me right now..a person or a group of people. Either you believe in some bottom line fundamental respect for people or you don't. mg

Art, I don't know if this scans right, can't remember the tune but I followed the above forms.

Please no squeeze-a Condoleeza I implore you.
She's just a parrot for a man named Bush.
She may seem as though she's acting like a tease, a
Quality that she don't like to push.

She is royal and so loyal to her Party
She just wants to stand by her man.
She don't want the trigger to be a mushroom cloud.
Though she's for the war, please don't call her a whore,
She's a working girl, just doing the best she can.
Condoleezer, she's a pleaser for the GOP crowd.

(Violin interlude with wide vibrato in a minor key)

Condoleeza, she's the bee's-a knee's. A maiden,
So iron that she gets to call the shots.
She is helping us to find the WMDs.
She's in a State, with a lot on her plate
She's helping Karl Rove hatch up his plots.
Condoleeza's helping Karl roll up his sleaze.

Art, Candace Rice is Condi's cousin who does great work in L.A. as an attorney for civil rights and social justice and has been featured on Moyer's program, "Now". Don't want the two Candy Rice's being confused.

I like your song and don't think it's racist or anything else. It's bound to offend Neo-cons because they are surely brain-washed.

Frank

Well, Art, I thought your parody was funny and not at all racist. :-D

Mary G ("I'm sure you would never intentionally offend anyone, or say anything that was even slightly racist, but in general, not speaking about you, I think Dr. Rice is the object of scorn, ridicule etc., as well as downright racism which would not be tolerated in polite society if her politics were different. mg"),

I know our political views don't completely mesh, but with all due respect to you and to Dr. Rice, I think she's gotten a pass from way too many people (including the media) because she's black. And because she's a Republican. If Hillary Clinton had obfuscated, prevaricated, stonewalled half as much as Rice did as Nat'l Security Advisor, or shown such egregious incompetence in such a position, she'd have been totally skewered in the press and the TV media, not to mention Republicans everywhere.

Dr Rice is capable and accomplished enough to be judged -- and parodied -- on her own actions and statements without those who evaluate or parody her being called racists. :-)

I like the new additions. Thanks for humoring me.
And thanks to the ones who saw a bit of fun in the the parody of Mona Lisa--and Condoleeza---at least after I calmed down and explained my terms after realizing I'd been none too clear. I like puns--always have -- and that's just the way I think. Somehow, Carol has put up with it for over 38 years up to now; not because I'm either clever or smart---but because SHE IS -- both of those. Mudcat and puns are what keep my mind somewhat nimble these days.

And, just think----if Nat and Natalie Cole can do a digital duet, why not concoct a new duet for Mona Lisa???

Are you really so naïve Condoleesa
Or the State Department lying in your smile

Are you schmoosing on the West Bank, Condoleeza
unaware with what your dealing cos your daft
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
While your Soulin after Colin
Are you warm, are you real, Condoleeza,
or just about to give them all the shaft

Do you smile because your favoured Condoleeza,
Or has ambition let your vanity go wild
Will you run in 4 years, Condoleeza,
or just sit tight with the Hard Right
Can you wait, bide your time, Condoleeza,?
Until Hilary is gone back to the void

No comment on her ethnicity, but another perspective:

Condoleeza, Condoleeza, Bush has named you
As his Secretary of State to tell the world
That the US rules the roost, though deeds have shamed you
Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo bely your smile?

Do you smile to win us over, Condoleeza?
Do you care about the lives war tears apart?
Many young dreams have died on your doorstep
They just lie there and they die there
Are you warm, are you real, Condoleeza?
Or just a cold ambitious woman with no heart?

instrumental interlude

Do you smile to win us over, Condoleeza?
Do you care about the lives war tears apart?
Many young dreams have died on your doorstep
They just lie there and they die there
Are you warm, are you real, Condoleeza?
Or just a cold ambitious woman with no heart?

I think Nat King Cole would forgive me.

Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa, men have named you,
Just a lady with the famous smile...

a huge hit for Nat King Cole.

The name Condoleeza seemed to demand to be put to this tune I've always thought. A nice pun---nothing more.

If she runs for the presidency, I only meant that being the first black person in the White House (ironic maybe?) would be better than leasing a condo = "condo leaser" = better 'an bein' a renter for the rest of the Bush lame duck presidency. Just another pun on her name!!

"Candy Rice--another pun on the woman's name---sounded to me like a dish in a Chinese restaurant. Xnd getting oriented was just a pun I came up with a while ago for the process Westerners go through to get used to the orient qnd the differences inherent therein.

The song is unfinished and that's why I offered it as a SONG CHALLENGE. I thought others might continue the little song with more puns they might come up with on her name or on others in the Bush administration and their foibles.

Mary, I'm sorry you didn't see that. I thought it was obvious---and I over-reacted to your acusations because they came as a big shock, coming, as they did, seemingly, out of the blue---. It was never my intention to offend you--or any others.

Well, as I'm fond of saying, Mary, if ya don't have a sense of humor, it isn't funny.

There was NO offense intented and this imbecilic, absolutely smile free era in which we live truly does not have any damn sense of humor whatsowver.

The tune is "Mona Lisa"---and it is a parody of that. Just a bunch of puns turned into a possible protest song---for the fun of it--and for the funny of it. No anti-Chinese or anti-Chinese food or no anti-African American or nothin'. Just a semi-clever parody. That's all!!! If you cannot see that... Oh, to hell with it. It's not worth it.

Condoleeza, Condoleeza, Bush has made you
You are the lady with the many-faced smile,
Condo leaser, condo leaser, that's the best way,

Away the years and wait your turn in the White House,
Renting in this town is no cheap thing,
But when you get to be the first black in there,
In that white house---the irony is plain...
