Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Arizona Yodeler From: GUEST,Joe Offer Date: 17 Feb 05 - 05:40 AM I couldn't find the lyrics, but here's some background information I found at http://www.musicweb-international.com/encyclopaedia/d/D181.HTM DeZURIK SISTERS A yodeling act popular '30s-40s-50s, working as a duet comprising mainly Carolyn (b '19, Royalton MN) and sister Mary Jane DeZurik (b '17, d '81). Noted for sky-high yodels, they could also make their yodels sound like chickens and were later known also as the Cackle Sisters. Appeared as the DeZurik Sisters on the WLS Barn Dance '36-49 and as the Cackle Sisters on the Grand Ole Opry '44-8: during these years they appeared on each show every other Saturday, on WSM one week and WLS the next. Mary Jane retired '48 to raise a family, replaced by younger sister Lorraine; the new duo appeared on the Midwestern Hayride '49-50. They disbanded early '50s and Carolyn joined the Prairie Ramblers which included her husband Rusty Gill. The Ramblers and Carolyn went on to perform on ABC television in Chicago in the mid-'50s-60s on such shows as Chicago Parade (one of the first morning shows in Chicago), Crazy Acres, It's Polka Time and Polka Go Round. The DeZurik Sisters recorded only a handful of 78s, though some collectors own transcriptions from Checkerboard Squares radio show. One of these 78 sides is 'Arizona Yodeler' which is still played to this day on radio stations across the country and has been issued on some German CDs. |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE ARIZONA YODELER (from Kenny Roberts) From: GUEST,Gene Date: 19 Feb 05 - 10:59 AM you have to listen to Kenny on Rose's Site to get the FEEL OF THE YODEL PART THE ARIZONA YODELER Kenny Roberts 1. Way out in Arizona in a town they call Winona Where the folks you meet all know a thing or two With a lad of great ambition who had set as his life's mission To excel upon his yodel-lee-del-lay-de-hoo BRIDGE: Oh he'd play a little tune on his Spanish guitar He'd mingle with his song this sweet refrain [long yodel refrain] 2. In the evenin' in the cactus he would get a lot of practice With his [yodel refrain] As his cattle he was trailin' you would always hear him wailin' On his [yodel refrain] BRIDGE 3. Soon he met a little maiden who with talent too was laden And she fell for him like flowers for the dew And he wished not to evade her so he used to serenade her With his [yodel refrain] BRIDGE [Yodel on out] |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Arizona Yodeler From: open mike Date: 20 Feb 05 - 02:47 PM there are a couple of more verses on the record lady site with the Cackle sisters... Once a big shot from the city heard him warbling a ditty and accompanied with his yodel... and he said look here my sonny you can make a lot of money with a yodel...... Then our hero took to dipping(?) gripping dripping(?) he was singing over the radio to you (?)earning he would then be returning any other guesses on the words...? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Arizona Yodeler From: Jim Dixon Date: 23 Feb 05 - 09:40 AM This first line doesn't make any sense, but it's the closest I can get: Then our hero took to [dippin'?] past [or "passed"] his [grippin'?] to the [drippin'?] Who was singin' o'er the radio to you. If the Swiss heard what he's earning, green with envy they'd be turning When he'd [yodel] p.s. It IS technically possible to link directly to a song, but Rose has asked that we not do that. She calls it "bandwidth theft." (See this page.) I don't exactly understand that, but I'm willing to honor her request anyway. |

Subject: RE: Req/ADD: The Arizona Yodeler From: Melissa Date: 18 Jan 08 - 04:52 AM MalcolmS, you might be able to find contact information for family members by looking at DeZurik Sisters stuff online. I saw comments from some of them while I was looking for songs to listen to (sorry, didn't think to save links and all I remember is that one was on a site with something about "Edith" in the name) This one has quite a few songs to listen to (and comments from family members) but doesn't seem to include The Arizona Yodeler. http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/08/365-days-214---.html |
Subject: RE: Req/ADD: The Arizona Yodeler From: Paul Hazell Date: 20 Mar 09 - 08:07 AM just added to another thread and noticed this one. If you are still looking for the publisher details, you might like to go to www.jasmine-records.co.uk and contact them. They have a CD by Australia's Wayne Horsburgh that features the song so may be able to point you in the right direction. Australia's Mary Schneider also recorded it back in the 80s but I don't think that version is available at the moment PAUL |
