I hope that I am not premature on this. and I have to make it clear that some of the spaces for the fringe are booked for those that will be hosting the sessions in the pubs, so I have put aside 8 places, I won't go into the discussion that I had with the festival organisors, but it has been agreed that I should take the bookings for the fringe. The charge has not been set But will ba about the same as last year. I will talk to the Liesure cntr Thursday. Any one wishing to book in drop me a line @ johnthebanjo@hotmail.com    There are 12 spaces left, and don't beat me up if you miss them, and don't book if you are not sure that you are coming, Mrs duck yours is booked thanks for your help. Cheers to all Oombanjo.

I have also just rang them (Box Office: 01629 827018 Admin: 01629 827019)and they said no "season ticket" no "camping", very autocratic
Is there another number I should be ringing, help please?

Still no luck with booking camping tickets. Same story each time "only for season ticket holders"!

By the way I think that Nellies have a b---- cheek to say that they would have music for the weekend only - something like til hell freezes over comes into mind - also I'm still waiting for a reply from Hump to a letter I sent about 5 weeks ago - reckon I'll be waiting a long time but surely the only way we have to show our disgust with them is to boycott their pubs?

Why can't someone organise a Peoples Voices weekend please - surely you would get plenty of support.
Yes, I totally agree with the comments about 'for profit' etc. and there's no way I would pay for 2 (the second person doesn't use a ticket at all, only to camp with me!) The Peoples Voices kept Beverley going and I always wondered why it didn't just carry on as it was.

There is no reason to doubt that the fringe will have its spaces on the site.
I will close of a part of the field for the fringe if necessary and take the bookings through the leisure centre.
However I want to play it straight with the new organisersand give them a chance to play it straight with us. I have a meeting with them shortly And will bring it up.
Just to put all minds at rest I have had a meeting with the director of leisure and he made it clear that there was to be no change with the fringe, also John the leisure centre manager is willing to take the bookings for the fringe but only if necessary and only after the next meeting, so that he is aware, that every chance has been give to the new organisers. Cheers Oombanjo

I have not been able to post as there had not been any update. However I have now been able to contact Steve from the festival, he has mow given the correct information to the lady who is taking the bookings. I have a meeting set for later this month, re the fringe and all camping on the field, this should resolve all the outstanding issues. It is now more than probable that I should be able to re turf the area where the contractors have stockpiled the soil. However this will only give 5 or 6 weeks to get it to take and we may only be able to put tent on this area. I will keep you updated as things move on.( Mrs Duck you can now phone and book. )

The fishing lake south of Beverley has camping spaces and cabins to rent. Its about 20 minutes walk from the Foresters, 40 from the festival site and the Sun. But there are two taxi companies in Beverley and it would only be a couple of minutes by taxi. Think its called 'minster lakes' or something like that.

I just has a feeling in me water that you're about to go the same way as Broadstairs - no fringe, no camping without a season ticket, no campsites nearby, guaranteeing a monopoly for the organisers...just has a familiar sound to it. Don't participate, just pay up and keep quiet.
Don't let the buggers get away with your festival brethren.

Its Tuesday pm I have another meeting set for Thursday re the removal of the soil. I should be able to give you an update Thursday pm.
However, irrespective of whether the soil is removed or not there will still be places for the fringe as this concession was given by the council after PVF. What we have to decide, with the interest of both the fringe and the festival is how many places. See earlier thread re placement of tents and vans.

If Steve Heap is involved nothing is for free. Business-like and professional but only if it has profit.

Chris Wade always had a professional aproach but I remember her in the White Horse Ceilidh band and impromptu French dancing in concerts - in short - a participant.

I ebnloyed Beverley festivals but I may not return, distance is a factor but I like my Folk - folk - not entertainment.

Well we are definitely planning to attend if we can camp fringe only with the caravan. I know Geoff will be keen to join in any old time session and Hodgsons would be a good location. Keep us informed about availability of places and who to contact so we can get our names down.

I had a meeting today with john the leisure cntr manager,he is putting pressure on the contracters to remove the soil by the end of march. If this happens ,as I said above I can then get the area re-turfed and ready for use, although it will not take caravans/mobiles it will take tents and maybe the Nosh tent.

Bums on seats festival then . Concerts with tickets make money. The audiance clap brill. More bums on seats more money. Shame they dont sing or play to contribute as those on the Fringe do.   Shame The Fringe seem to be fitted in . In my view the fringe make a festival worth going to. However they dont fill the coffers with dosh, but they are just what agood festival needs. AND THEY SHOULD BE THERE.

I wont jump in the deep end on some of the comments above. On the positive side, the number of fringe spaces has been reduced this year only if the soil from the building of the new pool(the area of a football field)can not be removed in time to re-turf the area,The meeting set for today was postponed as the new team were snowed in. A new meeting will be set, I will keep you updated. The opening friday night sesh will be the same in hodgsons ,the sun is still onboard foresters and the beck area are back on, the tiger and odfellows have yet to be approached, monks walk is on. Up to now the only change on the fringe is nellies who have said that, as long as the music is not organised it can happen BUT only on the folk weekend( not for me. humpfrey can ... ....... !!!!! If there is a call to carry on with the old time sesh this year I will find a venue, It could be Hodgsons in the afternoons, with Les and Mags doing the evening to late sesh. As to the price of camping on the fringe, it is not yet set but will be around the same as last year 6 or 7 pound/ night, and to big mal, the fringe is PVF. Dont jump ship yet mate. Cheers Oombanjo.

John B, you are quite correct, in fact there was no commercial festival a couple of years ago, only the 'Peoples Voice' festival which was all fringe, I enjoyed that year emensly. All things considered I don't think i'll bother with Beverley this year, check the link at the bottom of the page, Priddy looks "Priddy Good" to me later in the year.

Is there still any chance of an old-timey session Oombanjo? This has been the highlight of the last 2 years for me, but with Nellie's out of the picture and most people at the A1 it's not looking very hopeful. Also the ticket prices seem very high (can't remember what they were last year), I know people who might be put off by this as they spend at least half their time on the fringe so don't do all the concerts.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the fringe that kept Beverley going a couple of years back? The same is now happening at Sidmouth in that the fringe is happening, along with concerts too. I just hope that Sidmouth doesn't forget in a couple of years time the same as Beverley seems to have. I really enjoyed Beverley last year by the way, as a ticket holder to boot, but I think festivals should remember that the fringe is an intrinsic part of it. I didn't go to every concert, and indulged in the fringe on a few occasions. Lay on enough camping for all, and of course charge for it, that way everybody is happy and all will promote the festival.

Well Im back on line,I'v had to have the, not so old thing gutted and rebuilt. I got a phone call from the new organizers yesterday and was asked if I could go to a meeting on thursday 24th, however at the last meeting (the one where Chris introduced the new team) It was agreed that there would be a reduction in the number of fringe places this year as a result of the stored soil on the field. What was agreed was that any fringe tenting would be on the mound at the side of Hodgsons and any caravans would be in front of Hodgsons I requested 18/20 spaces hopefully this should be enough as most of the old timeys will be at the A1. I will confirm after the meeting tomorrow.

Won't see Oombanjo until Sunday at earliest so can't comment on that. He did tell me last Sunday that he didn't anticipate there being any problems with the reduced space because of the old timey people going to the "A1"? festival rather than Beverley this year.

So, I wouldn't worry too much about losing your space if you can't get it booked immediately.

The situation is that Scott doesn't know what he is talking about. Oombanjo works for the East riding Council who own the site - he prepares it for use by the FF. If he says there is fringe camping, then there is fringe camping.

I spoke to John (Oombanjo)last night and can confirm what Roger has said. The camping arrangements are in his hands and he will definitely make some spaces available for non - ticket holders. He should be back on line soon.In the meantime, a call to the festival office is probably the best bet, as Roger and Straw legend suggest.

I spoke to Oombanjo yesterday and he assures me that arrangements for fringe only camping remain as in the last few years. However, there is a general reduction in camping space due to the building work for the new swimming pool, so get your places booked early to avoid disappointment.
