Subject: Noteworthy to ABC Convertor? From: DMcG Date: 17 Feb 05 - 03:37 PM I already have ABC2NWC, but I've just tried it on a Noteworthy file and had the message 'This file appears to be compressed. Please resave it as an uncompressed file'. I wrote to the developer some time ago and it seems that Noteworthy have not released details of the compression algorithms, which is why he cannot read it. However, I've been told that the file was definitely not compressed, so I suspect it might be to do with Noteworthy version differences and nothing to do with compression at all. Does anyone know of other NWC to ABC converters? (I have actually converted the specific file now via MIDI, but I'd like to be able to convert file formats reliably) |
Subject: RE: Noteworthy to ABC Convertor? From: GUEST,MMario Date: 17 Feb 05 - 03:44 PM Dave - there are two versions of the noteworthy files. "standard" noteworthy - which *is* a compressed file - but not what people would normally consider "compressed" - and "uncompressed NWC file" - with the file open in noteworthy - do File/Save AS the "uncompressed" choice is the LAST one in the list of file types. |

Subject: RE: Noteworthy to ABC Convertor? From: DMcG Date: 17 Feb 05 - 03:48 PM To clarify: I don't actually own Noteworthy myself, but I do own ABC2NWC. This was a file sent to me that I tried to convert. I installed the trial version to resave it in a form I was certain was uncompressed, but the trial version does not allow you to save files from registered users! |
Subject: RE: Noteworthy to ABC Convertor? From: GUEST,MMario Date: 17 Feb 05 - 03:50 PM you could always send it to me. I can produce midi, abc, pdf from noteworthy. |
Subject: RE: Noteworthy to ABC Convertor? From: wysiwyg Date: 17 Feb 05 - 04:00 PM I've resent it Dave, saved per Mmario's instrux above. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Noteworthy to ABC Convertor? From: DMcG Date: 17 Feb 05 - 04:05 PM And, world, it worked! Thanks, MMario. I may call on you in the future if I come across of compressed file that I'm stuck with. |
Subject: RE: Noteworthy to ABC Convertor? From: John in Brisbane Date: 20 Feb 05 - 10:05 AM I've been having problems with this for yonks and I'm getting quite frustrated. I'm referring here to the conversion process FROM Noteworthy. There are lots of ways to perform different functions with MIDIs and NWC's and ABC and Music scanning and lyrics and guitar chords and harmony lines and more. I love ABC as a versatile form of completed notation but it's sometimes very difficult for me to get the final product, particularly if there are aligned lyrics and guitar chords present. On the other hand I quite like NWC as an input vehicle, particularly for lyrics. (1) I've found NWC2ABC both a joy and a disaster at various times. In particular I can never quite reconcile the NWC2ABC process for aligned lyrics. It was only tonight that I bothered to read Bryan Creer's HELP File and a small reference to the fact that ABC and NWC treat ties and slurs differently. Yeah, well I knew that too but hadn't quite realised that Bryan wasn't offering a perfect solution. Does anyone have any tricks or work-arounds to minimse conversion errors here? (2) And sticking to NWC for the moment, does anyone know of a reliable utility to convert MIDIs (with aligned lyrics and created by NWC) into ABC? ABC2MIDI (from James Allwright/Seymour Shlien) produces awful output. Pavane's HARMONY hasn't workrd for me in the past, but I haven't yet tried the more recent version(s). Any other options please? I'm in a slightly dirty mood about this tonight 'cos I've been working on a 3/4 song of about 96 bars, had got the tune sounding right, added the lyrics - only to discover that my anacruses was the wrong length and the strong note in each bar was in the middle of each bar. It's a real bummer to try and fix the ABC lyrics manually in this case. Any help greatly appreciated. Regards, John |
Subject: RE: Noteworthy to ABC Convertor? From: pavane Date: 21 Feb 05 - 09:21 AM Can you be more specific about the requirement and the problems you wish to overcome? I would have thought that the output MIDI from Noteworthy would be fairly easy to import, as the notes will be correctly aligned and of standard length. Does Noteworthy pad the start of the file with rests so that the bar lines are correctly placed? (Remembering that the MIDI format does not provide bar lines, they have to be inferred from the time signature, absolute time in ticks, and number of ticks per note) If you emailed me a MIDI produced by Noteworthy, perhaps I could work out a solution. |
Subject: RE: Noteworthy to ABC Convertor? From: GUEST,Warren Date: 09 May 11 - 03:03 PM I have a web based page to convert from ABC to Noteworthy (actually nwctxt): abcnwc.html that includes links to a user tool to convert the other way, one staff at a time. |
Subject: RE: Noteworthy to ABC Convertor? From: Tootler Date: 09 May 11 - 04:08 PM I have used both and both work fine. With the noteworthy to abc converter, you need to copy (using Ctrl-C) and paste the output into a text editor. |
Subject: RE: Noteworthy to ABC Convertor? From: Stewart Date: 02 Jun 18 - 01:47 PM From the thread ABC to Standard Notation One other neat thing that EasyABC does (for those who use Noteworthy Composer) is convert a NWC score into ABC. The only hitch is that you have to convert the NWC file to the earlier 1.75 nwc file version - in NWC: File, Export... , Save as type noteworthy composer 1.75 file. Then in Easy ABC: File, Import and add... and voila, you get the ABC. It's an easy way to get my NWC score into ABC to add a tune in TheSession.org. Cheers S. in Seattle |
