Subject: Tune Req: Teledu Cymru/TWW 60s opening medley?
From: RichardE

Hi, I'm new here, so apologies if this is in the wrong place, etc...

We are trying to identify the tunes that are included in a largely traditional medley played by the Band of the Welsh Guards for the daily startup of Teledu Cymru (later TWW), the commercial TV station that served Wales in the 60s.

I have uploaded a 1.4MB MP3 of the medley to my website for reference.

It was arranged by one "Arnold Steck" (aka Major Leslie Statham, the Band's long-time director of music). Teledu Cymru/TWW used the medley from 1962 to 1968.

The band steams through an intricate arrangement that includes several tunes that we have been able to identify and at least one, or perhaps more, that we can't. So far we have managed:

Pant corlan yr wyn (Let now the harp)
[unknown tune(s)]
Clychan Aberdyfi (Bells of Aberdovey)
Men of Harlech
God Bless the Prince of Wales

I would be most grateful for any observations. If this forum doesn't have a means of notifying people when a reply is posted, perhaps you could copy your reply to me at relen@brideswell.com to make sure I don't miss it. We've been researching this for months and have not made any new headway for some time, so any contributions would be welcome.

Many thanks in advance!
