That's the trouble with a request for "THE" chords. I've not tried them all and I wouldn't know a sus4 if it hit me but it's possible all versions would work.

Do a normal D chord, and on the treble E string where your finger is on the second fret (F#), put your pinkie finger on the G note on the third fret.

I use the thumb to catch the bass string. Makes a 'blue note', but they are octaves apart so it doesn't matter.

I usually stay away from discussions of Irish stuff--but I am compelled to add my bit here, since the chords offered don't really follow the tune--Firstly, though it D a fine key, A is better for this on guitar, and G is lifeless--Play it in six/eight time--three counts for each letter(there is one measure between the slash marks)--as to the lyrics--you know where they go--

Name your fingers from thumb to pinkie. Thumb is I, pinky is V--Roman Numerals. So, thumb at bass G on third fret is I3. Chord is done thus:

I-3, IV-5, V-5, 0, II-3, II-3

The duplication there is from the forefinger covering both the B and E strings at the third fret.

One more thing, Amos. Getting the thumb to function with this chord is a neat thing to do. I learned it from Richie Haves. It is 'bad' technigue, but it opens up some really good possibilities. I make almost all my "E formation" bar chords in this manner--major OR minor. Gets too difficult past the 9th fret--depends on the size of your hands I guess. Neat way to do it though because it lends itself to 'easy and fast' ascending and descending chords in that formation. Good for rock or folk, IMO.

No need to use all your fingers up with that chord--you get exactly the same notes if you play--and no need to use your thumb at all.

It isn't really a chord, just a fifth interval--Gs and Ds--we used to use it to accompany Romanian fiddling, and, if you don't change to something else, it is modal--
