You can hear John Denver sing it on youtube: Dear Lord.

The lyrics are as above, except line 3 should be glows rather than glow.

Mick

Subject: Lyr Add: DEAR LORD (Hume Cronyn/Susan Cooper)

Here are the words as I heard them:

Dear Lord
by Hume Cronyn & Susan Cooper
From the Movie "Foxfire"

Now the stars is restin', sittin' on the hill,
Nothin' is a'soundin' but a whippoorwill.
Down in our hollow, there the foxfire glow -
Dear Lord, give all your creatures there repose.

The day is done, dear Lord,
Tomorrow's sun, dear Lord,
is sure to come, is sure to come,
We have your word, dear Lord.

Every shadow's shrinkin', shrinkin' to the west,
the breeze comes so sweetly across the fresh-mowed hay,
Dear Lord, be with us through a new born day,
a new born day, dear Lord, oh let it stay,
Oh hear us pray, dear Lord.

You're referring to the 1987 TV movie "Foxfire" starring Jessica Tandy, Hume Cronyn, and John Denver. (There were other movies with the same title.)

Hume Cronyn and Susan Cooper wrote the play it was based on; then Susan Cooper wrote the film adaptation.

I did find some biographical information about Hume Cronyn that said he wrote the lyrics to 3 songs that appeared in that movie: DEAR LORD; SWEET TALKER; and MY FEET TOOK T'WALKING.

I was unable to find any lyric quotes, sound samples, or information about any recordings.

There was a song sung in the movie "Foxfire" called "Dear Lord." I believe it was written by Hume Cronyn and Susan Cooper. If anyone can help me find the words to this song, I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Lyle
