One of my Irish fiddle students is moving to San Francisco or environs in March. He is quite talented and he practices a lot, but he's only been taking lessons for about two months. Can anyone give advice on finding an Irish fiddle teacher in the Bay area?

I've sent the query to a friend who lives in the SF area and is heavily into the Celtic Music scene.

I'm sure Joe Offer and others from the area will help as well.

I very highly recommend Radriano's housemate Erin Schrader, as I'm sure Radriano will too when he sees this thread. Erin is a fine teacher as well as a very well-known Irish fiddler on the West coast, a great fiddler. She recently moved to San Francisco from Seattle. You might want to send Radriano a PM.

Also check out Valley of the Moon Fiddle camp
it is Scottish, as is Alasdair Fraser,
but there is a variety of music there,
including Scandinavian and more.
End of August, Beginning of Sept.
and Lark in the Morning music camp
which is sponsorted by or associated wtih
www.larkinam.com/
http://www.larkcamp.com/ it is july 29 - aug 6
and around new years the san fran. folk club
hold camp harmony...
all of these gatherings will offer countless
opportunies to play, learn, jam, etc.
(everything but sleep, i imagine)

Pauline, I would recommend that you find a fiddle teacher who actually performs Irish music rather than someone who plays another style and "knows about" Irish music.

You might post your question to the IRTRAD list -- a number of San Francisco people are there.

There are a list of celtic fiddle teachers in the Bay Area listed on my website at:

Good luck.
