What a venue! Superb! Worthwhile going just to see it.
The gig went well. Thanks very much to Ian Clelland who does a great job on the sound desk.

After the Star Club we popped into the Taybank on the Friday and again a fortnight later where we joined in with the regular singarond upstairs.

In between the two Fridays Angie did a great gig on the Isle of Rum. Half the population of the island turned up.

We will definetely be back to all three venues sometime.
until then see you at the Orkney Festival. we will make a pint (sorry, point but then again..) of coming to hear Tarneybackle.

And finally The Isle of Rum are having a festival his year May 13,14 and 15th. with Peatbog Faeries and Shoolgelnifty amongst others. Should be great!

Hi Rob,

The gig at The Star was great. A very warm and appreciative audience. St Andrews in the Square is a pretty big venue and the acoustics are lively. The Star has a resident sound man - Ian Clelland who really knows his stuff. We are looking forward to returning there in the new year.

Re-Orkney. We are delighted to be heading up to the northern isles. Although Sandy gets sea-sick when he takes a bath!!!

We believe that we will be playing in one or two outlying islands or areas of the mainland on Thursday and Friday and then in Stromness itself at the weekend.

Hopefully, we'll get to share a song or ten with Angie.

In the meantime, wishing Angie all the best for Glasgow and Rhum.

Cheers

John

Angie Wright, half of the infamous Taggart and Wright will be playing support to the Emily Smith Band at the Star Club in Glasgow. I know it is not quite Fife but a short journey for a great night. That is Thursday 24th March at St. Andrews in the Square.
We are hoping to visit a few clubs in Fife while we are up as well as visits to the isles of Muck and Rum.

Glad to hear that Arthur is going strong Andymac.
John Mc Dermott's comment is spot on.
It is that very thing that keeps us going and doing what we do.
Thanks a bunch for the update and for passing on John's wisdom.....
It makes me happy to know that all is well and as it should be back Hame.

On the subject of Arthur johnstone and The Laggan, I bumped into Arthur recently and he was in fine form.
I also had the pleasure of meeting John McDermott in The Kingshouse hotel in Glencoe last weekend and in the company of a hitherto unrealised mutual friend, we all sat and chatted the night away and managed a few wee drinks as well. One thing that John said, which really hit home, in response to a question from someone else about the music scene in Scotland was that "all over Scotland, right now, people will be singing songs and playing traditional music- at home, with friends, in the pub, that's what keeps it going..."
Just remembering that keeps me going.

Andymac

I saw Angie Wright at the Loch Lomond festival as half of the Taggart and Wright duo last year. She can certainly sing. They were a very accomplished act.

The Star morphed into the New Dawn after Arthur handed over and it was run by Kenny Caird for several years. When Ken wanted to move on, the running of the club was taken over by a committe/board, and it moved to Saint Andrews in the Square about two years ago ( I think ).

SAinTS is a lovely venue.

Ake, Arthur stepped down a while ago now.
I couldn't say how he is doing but I hope he is well. Ive been gone from Glasgow for a while now and lost touch with a lot of Folk...as you do...sadly.
I think The (new) Star has a Board that runs it now or something like that?
The Star has moved from Calton Place to St. Andrew's in the Square.
It moved a couple of times over the last few Years.
I had some great times in Carlton Place years ago too...Arthur and the "Laggan"....refreshments..hic...and wicked good Music.
Hey Kendall if you and your Bride cross the water again and visit Glasgow maybe I could come along and Translate for you!!!
I am SURE they loved you at the Star.
Blessings
Jude

Is Arthur Johnstone still at the "Star".

Had an unforgettable night with Arthur and the "Laggan" back in the dim and distant.

They had come to perform at a wee pub in Strathlachlan, because of the weather only a handful of punters turned up,but we locked the doors and what a night we had.   the lads went through their whole song list ,and threw in as many requests as we wanted.

If memory serves, The gig went on till 4.00am with plenty of breaks for refreshments...Ake

I loved performing at the Star. Couldn't understand a word they were saying, but the hospitality was real.
