I think about you both often and especialy when I pass your old house on Meanwood Road.I hope the coal bucket is still holding up! It's seems such a long time since you bought it from me in Leeds Market.

No, Cyril is still much the same; not in so much pain, but sleepy and sometimes confused by the painkillers, though he has had a few more lucid days recently. If any Lancaster Maritime Festivalgoers read this, we would like to thank them for the magnificent card, bearing (I estimate) around 200 signatures. It was particularly appropriate because Lancaster 2004 was the last gig he was able to do.

I have just been in the Lake District with a group of refugee musicians on a multi-cultural music project. One of the serious gems we recorded was an Kurdish-Liberian-Anglo version of the Grey Funnel Line. The message of the song is very clear to anyone, we found, even those with very little English. There have thousands of versions of this song recorded, I am sure, but I think the Kurdish chorus singers make this a first! Anyway, I was thinking of Cyril in bed as we were singing away surrounded by lambs, birds, hills and daffodils
