The DMcFband (electric) will NOT be playing at the Iron Duke, Harrogate on Sat 12th March.
Literally JUST found out the (month old) new management there have booked a whole entertainment
programme without due regard to bookings such as ours - made last November!
Please don't travel to see us there - Someone else is now on - we're not!
Humble apologies - even though not our fault. Cheers - DMcF

If you had any kind of contract , you may well be entitled to some recompense for cancellation ! Less than a weeks notice is not really acceptable - And if you arent in M U , then you should be !! If only for the legal help !

Aye, it's a mess Leadfingers. Pity.
How much is a verbal agreement with a manager now dismissed from that place of work? What obligation does the new management have when the 'outgoing' takes his diary away with him and they are left clueless?
I'm not interested in compensation for us - we don't do music for the money particularly.
But I really don't want anybody else inconvenienced.
Hope our mailing list - and the contact lists of others that I'll get onto - and this vital 'organ' here - means that no one will turn up there thinking we're on.
Cheers - DMcF

A verbal contract is just as binding as a written one - thats why I asked about Musicians Union - If you are only semi pro , the dues are NOT excessive and you DO get the back up for legal problems !
And surely , if its a manager , you have a claim against the company who owns the place and employs the manager !o

Ayup Raggy!
Aye - I'll check wi' the good Lady Pamela, see if she'd like a night out watching somebody else for a change!
Though she'll likely say, 'Great! What's on at the Playhouse?' (or similar - she has no real love of folk!)
I'll get back to you on it.

My daughter will certainly prefer we go out! Anywhere!!!
El Fingers, I'm really not bothered re. our own situation.
The current management have told us they'll book us in the
future - been very apologetic - and I want no confrontation
- with all the hassle thereafter.
All I want is that no fan of ours turn up on Saturday and be
disappointed. To this end I am just about to (now at home, not work)
get a post off to our band's email list.
I've already posted here on the Cat, and notified the great Jim Lawton of Tykes' News Filofolk
- he in turn has already made the changes on their website and elsewhere.
Next up, I'll be contacting the local club organisersthat I'm known to
(Big John Waller at Bradford Topic, Ray Black at Harrogate etc etc) and ask them to hit their mailing lists too.
No worries man, but thanks for the concern - and the replies help refresh the thread and keep it right up there
- thanks Lead-y. Cheers - DMcF

Ta muchly - DMcF

My band used to play there when it was the Rum Runner, and it was never a good venue. But back it was The Old Tradition, and I remember bands having really good nights in them daze

DmcF - Fair enough mate - If the new management are prepared to book you , you dont want to make too many waves . However , membership of something like MU ia definately advisable - We have had recourse to legals in the past over cancellations without notice in the past , and when you can get it all without paying the lawyers yourself , one case will repay several years subscription !
Best of luck any way .

Duncan me old fruit, there is a thread for the do on Saturday Runswick Bay Rescue Boat, the easiest way to find it is to take the A62 (Manchester Road) out of Huddersfield towards Oldham after about a mile and a bit there is a pub called the Warren House on the left, turn right opposite the pub down Whiteley Street and then first right into Bankwell Road, the club is the first building on the left, no admission fee although we will hang people upside down to get the change out of their pockets for the rescue boat, I'll also be making some supper of baked potatoes and chilli con carne and a vegetable curry for which we ask a donation of £1 although we will of course accept MORE !

Leddy - I'm too old and tired to make waves - glad you understand.
The MU thing is worth a thread of its own (haven't checked for existing ones on here - will look later).
Anyone want to post opinions and experiences therein?
Benefits - drawbacks?
I'll be interested in reading 'em.

Raggy me boy,
Ta for the spec.
Bring a guitar? Dough! That'll go down badly with the good Lady P!
But you rescue the situation with your . . . .

'I'll also be making some supper of baked potatoes and chilli con carne and a vegetable curry'

. . . she allus liked the Howarth gigs a while back where Steve Tilst or Damien Barb cooked up summat grand
. . she'll put up with any amount of that 'awful folk music' (including mine!) for some decent scram!

Is it purely acoustic, or through a PA system or what?
Bloomin' passive pick-ups means more 'kit' for me to bring if it's a plug in jobbie.

So, will pass on the news of the food on return home - hope it clinches the deal - the poor Lady
has suffered following me to gigs for 32 years now!!
Mercy she cries!
All the best - DMcF

My experience of contracts Dunc is that they are fine in theory but actually not that beneficial in practice (it would take too long to discuss the pros and cons right now).

Not sure if MU support would change that view.

You could go to the "Small Claims Court". A friend of mine did that and won his fee for a late cancellation. I think it was only a verbal agreement/booking.

Thanks Brakn, ta for that.
We have established up above here already that we're just letting it pass tho'. Replacement booking from the new management (at an increased fee!) will do us nicely.

The only reason I keep replying on here is basically to 'refresh' - to keep the notification of the gig cancellation as high up here as poss to prevent folk travelling uneccessarily. Some might clock onto the board here when it's dropped down off those postings 'in view' - and I don't want anybody to miss it and arrive there.
Cheers anyway - and here it is momentarily back at the top......
DMcF

Refresh

...and hopefully that's it if this stays up in view
for the rest of the day. Thanks for your patience one and all.

A wee aside...
In my determination to make sure that as many folk as poss
knew this gig was off, I had failed miserably to look
close to home.
A chance phone call to Anne, my fiddle player, today
(about a festival booking that's just come in)
ended with her saying 'See you later tonight then'
Yep! I'd somehow let all the band know - 'cept her!!!
Oops!
