That could bring us round, once again to the perennial debate...What is Folk?

I saw Elton John at Wembley just after he'd released Captain America and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, or whatever it was called. It was an eleven hour concert, with Elton John topping the bill. The penultimate act was the Beach Boys who were awesome. Elton did mostly stuff from his new album, which, of course, few people knew. After the Beach Boys, he was actually a let-down and a real disappointment to me, since he was the main reason I'd gone. I've never been so much of a fan since, though I do still like the early stuff. (yeah Nick, Come down in time is just wonderful too)

Love Lynne

Sorry way off topic - is it folk? Nope

Love Song might be though

Elton John album (with Your Song) Tumbleweed and Madman were (to me) the best

I first heard Elton John's music in a barn in Kildonan on Arran when I was about 16 and I thought it had good songs on it and WONDERFULLY produced for the time - as I remember.

Double bass recorded well (King is Dead etc) - wonderful acoustic guitar sound (Madman across water - a bit on a track (about 2 bars) on Tumbleweed which I have always struggled to explain to people why it is so wonderful to me but it JUST IS perfection for me in playing and sound) and tasteful strings (Come Down in Time when the strings whoosh in still makes me smile) - and great drum sounds.

I'm not a fan now but I still occasionally listen to the early albums and still like the sounds and tunes

Elton John was far better when he was working with Bernie Taupin. When Bernie stopped writing the songs he was never as good. I love Tiny Dancer, Your Song, Rocket Man.....

The reason why Tumbleweed stays fresh when other EJ albums have got boring is because there were no singles released off it.

Absolutely one of my all time favourite albums, and I don't particularly like Elton John.

Well thank you...brilliant. And I don't know how I couldn't remember what it was...Tumbleweed Connection is my favourite Elton John album that I used to play lots. As soon as I read the answer I could hear the whole thing in my head in Elton't voice. Great!

We must be slipping, Robbie. I've seen hundreds of requests like yours answered, complete with lyrics and links in less than three minutes. I think if some of us could type faster, the one minute barrier might have been broken numerous times. Yes, the Mudcat is amazing!

It's called Love Song and was written by Lesley Duncan

It appears sung by Elton John on Tumbleweed Connection (with Lesley singing) and is one of my favourite Elton things - simple guitar accompaniment rather than piano which makes it an oddment for Elt

I have had a bit of a song going round my head for days. I can hear it in my mind, but can't think who recorded it or what the song is...Help!!

"Love is the opening door.
Love is what we came here for.
No one could offer you more.
Do you know what I mean?
Have your eyes really seen?"

Sounds very hippyish so it was probably 60s or maybe 70s. Any ideas?

Love Lynne
