Subject: Chord Add: I'm Looking over a Four-Leaf Clover
From: Genie

I know that jazz musicians and fancy pickers can use more frequent chord changes and fancier chords, but I find that this chord sequence works just fine for me:

I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover
Words & Music by Mort Dixon & Harry Woods, 1927
Recorded by Art Mooney, 1948

I'(G)m↓looking o(Em)ver a fo(G)ur-↓leaf cl(Em)over

That (A)I overlo(A7)oked before;

O(D)ne leaf is su(D7)nshine, the se(E7)cond is rain,

Thi(A)rd is the ro(A7ses    that blo(D)om in the la(D7)ne.

N(G)o ne↓ed expla(Em)ining, the o(G)ne re↓mai(Em)ning

Is so(A)mebody (A7)I aE7do(A7)re.

I'(C)m looking o(Am7)ver   a fo(G)ur-le(Bm)af cl(E7)over

First Time:

That (Am7)I o(A7)verlo(D)oked b(D7)efo(G)re.

Last Time:
That (C)I o(A7)verlo(D)oked b(D7)efo(G)re.

I do modulate the finger positions for some chords like A7 (e.g., different fingerings for the same basic chord) but I don't know how to designate those changes without drawing diagrams.   I just find that, e.g., if I stay on A7 for a measure or two, it makes it more interesting to change from the 0-0-2-0-2-0 position to either 0-0-2-0-2-3 or 0-0-2-2-2-3 at times. Not essential but makes the chording more interesting to me.

(In case the "walk-down" arrow doesn't show up right on some people's browsers/computers, if you see something funny-looking between the G and Em, it's supposed to be an arrow pointing downward.)

Brucie posted a link to crap chords that don't even work for the song (at least here on Earth), and I sat down and worked them out (not that it took a lot of time, I admit, but it did take some time),and Brucie gets the personal thanks, I get nada!--

I mention this only as a point of internet etiquette, Alley--links you can get from a search engine--nice that Brucie provided them, but, I worked out a playable chord chord arrangement for you--which you did ask for--didn't need to to it, but hey, I like to help people out--Don't make me have second thoughts the next time someone asks for chords--

Brucie, Just wanted to let you know that I did get the piano music for this song. I went to "www.voy.com/134444/". If you go to "www.voy.com" you will see all the categories. There is one that has all Irish music. You might want to check it out. Once again, thanks so much for all your help. Alley

Those chords are a mess!(Guitar Guy says the chords are his own interpretation, and he is not kidding) Louis Roy is right--the chords are simple, and incidentally, piano and guitar chords will be pretty much the same--

In C--

Pick Up /- G7/
|C C/C C/D7 D7/D7 D7/
G7 G7 /C C/D7 D7/ G7 G7/
|C C/C C/D7 D7/D7 D7/
F Fm/C B7-Bb7/ A7 A7/
D7 D7/ G7 G7 / C C|

Play two counts for each chord symbol, except for the ones connected by a hyphen, which are one count each. The pick up would be (on the G7 chord) Rest two three four/(three downstrokes)--

Guest Alley I can't give you the piano chords for this tune, but I can give you the guitar chords in the (Key)of (C)for this tune and they are very simple and this tune is played many times in this area with a fiddle as lead instrument and backed up by the guitar mandolin banjo piano and bass and Ididn'yrealize it was that difficult until I looked at brucie's version Louie Roy

I am not sure, Alley, because neither have I (ordered from internet--and it's likely not a good idea to give out your credit card number). I will continue then to look and see if there is a free sheet music available for piano. Later.

Brucie, Thank you so much for the information. I did go to MSN Music and checked it out. Please help me out a little - when I order this, will I be getting sheet music for the piano or download the actual music? If it is the sheet music, which is what I want, will it be sent in the mail or downloaded to my e-mail? I have never ordered anything off the internet using my credit card - guess I'm from the old school! Thanks again.

I have it in the Readers Digest Family Songbook in Cmaj, but it isn't any easier to play than Brucie's Amaj version above.
