From: Bloke in the Corner

Yes, you did read it right, the big Barrow session this Easter will be doubled, on Tuesday 22nd March and Tuesday 29th March - the day after Easter Monday. There are a couple of reasons for this
1) I talked to a couple of the mothers of the young players who said their kids could come two weeks on the trot, and would enjoy it
2) The first date, Tuesday 22nd is Jo the landlady's LAST night in the pub! So we definitely want to make that one a real hooley. Jo has been so kind to us and made the Barrow session such fun over the past months, we should say goodbye to her properly.
TWO EXCELLENT DATES, TWO STUNNING SESSIONS! WHO'S UP FOR IT?

Where be the big Barrow please. I'm travelling that week, and looking for places to sing, and play. My stuff is contemporary, folk-ish, and mostly humerous.

Look on your map for Hull, East Yorks. Just to the west of the city is the Humber Bridge. At the south end of the Humber Bridge is a town called Barton on Humber. Presuming you come along the A15 bridge approach road go into Barton, and go east through it on the A1077 to the next village, Barrow on Humber. The Six Bells is a pub just off the village square. Everyone knows it, guaranteed.
The session is totally anarchic, no bosses, NOT a singaround, just the nicest bunch of folkies you'll see in a long time - not many beards/glasses/sandals & socks - and the pub has got good beer. Loads of tunes, a few songs - no rules about that, just the courtesy we all pay to say that people like to join in & play, & with songs it's not always easy. But of course we DO allow solo singers, we have a few already. Make the trip if you can, a warm welcome awaits!

Thanks for that! It happens that I'm planning four days in Lincs, with a club visit each day, and Barrow fits perfectly for Tues 29th.

Providing the weather is warm ebnough to camp (my wife has severe arthritis, so cold weather is a problem), We shall be there. Looking forward to it.

Kindest regards Don T.

Wow! Someone COMPLETELY new at the session.
PLoughflyer, why do you call happy Mal Groucho? Just cos he's a miserable old sod, that's no reason to insult him.
Give him my love & kisses next time you see him.

Home to El Capistrano, my dear Bloke, doyen of the telly adverts of the early 80s, selling timeshare to Henry Cooper 'Be Your Own Boss' wannabees.

It boasts a fine Hotel Parador with a lift down the cliffs to the beach, the beach on which I was sniggering at the lastest Tom Sharpe when news spread along the beach that Maggie had been bombed out of the Grand Hotel in Brighton.

Near Malaga, old love.

BTW, Cameron, Mikey needs new tappets or summat in his pipes; can you smuggle a set back in? Hope you have a braw week, and a good gig.

I'm sorry but I can't make it tonight - rehearsing for Paddy's night. I will be there next week though. Bloke - can you put in a few quid for me for Jo's present? Don't forget to extract the money from me next week - you may need a flanged speculum for this!

While on flanged specula, it would be really really nice to see Oaklet with his fiddle. Being spring, he should be resplendent in his alpha male prime.

Richard.

Looking forward to some great music!

Study, my dear Bloke, a bucket of crabs, if you will. You shall observe that when one crab attempts to climb out of the bucket, his fellow crabs pull him back down into the bucket.

I shall desist in any attempt to leave you again after next week's folly, and look forward to my reinstitutionialisation.

Hope you enjoyed the crabs.

Incredible coincidence, skipper; at famed shellfish merchants Anderson's in Cleethorpes today, they have had NO crabs for some time, and expect NONE for another week or so. I thought it was bad weather out to sea that was stopping the landings - but NO! It was YOU catching them in advance and carrying out cruel experiments, wicked not only for the physical hardship it inflicted on these poor but delicious creatures but also for systematically destroying their will to succeed - as opposed to parrots which will always suck seed... ALF, get him! His address is.....

Lovely to see everyone, particularly the young'uns, the landlady was enchanted, she's very happy even though I told her the normal sessions are a lot smaller. I hope we've made a seamless transition from Jo to the new one! Next BIG BARROW SESSION around 8 weeks - but of course all are welcome every week!

Wyziwyg spelled right, but there is a Wysiwyg who has been a catter much longer than I, hence the Don and the T at either end.

Me and the Mrs. spellbound after one of the best sessions we have visited, freeform, light touch, and thoroughly enjoyable. The youngsters are remarkable, and if they are an example of the talent available, folk music is safe for many years yet.

Wonderful reception at Cottingham, and Donisthorpe too. I like it up t'north and hope to be back next year.

Many thanks to all concerned
Don & Winnie T.
