Subject: Lyr Req: What kind of love ( or Man) is this ?
From: GUEST,Fruitbowlsdad_UK

I have heard a local singer / songwriter (Phil Chisnall) perform a song at my local Folk Club (Bromborough, Wirral, UK) that has verses that start with "What kind of love is this" and "what kind of man is this".

I have searched on Google and within the DT but cannot find the song that I have heard. It is a nice song that I would like to be able to play and sing, and I am a bit embarrassed to actually ask Phil, who is a very good musician, whereas I am not.

Can anybody help ?

Did you hear it as a gospel song? That's how I know it. I'm not sure I have a lyric for it but I have heard multiple black gospel versions.

The same two lines appear in the Broadway show-tune "What Kind of Fool Am I."

I believe it's from one of Brit Anthony Newley's ground-breaking-at-the-time 1960s musical comedies, either "The Roar of the Greasepaint (the Smell of the Crowd)" or "Stop the World (I Want to Get Off).".

Took the chance tonight to buy the latest CD by Phil Chisnall, after a good gig. This song, by Bryn Howarth (?), is on the CD and I will spend the next few days trying to learn this song. Thank you all for your help.

This is a really nice song, which means a lot to me.

TA !!

Allmusic.com and several other web sites give the songwriter's name as Bryn Haworth.

WHAT KIND OF LOVE IS THIS is on Bryn Haworth's album "More Than a Singer," King CD #542, 1992.

It's also on two various-artists collections: "Celtic Season of Worship, Vol. 1," Vital Communications CD #36, 2005; and "Moments of Surrender, Vol. 2," Clydesdale CD #7730. Allmusic.com didn't name the performers on those albums.
