I have the words in "Abair Amhrán" I'll paste them in here tomorrow - in plenty of time for Christmas

I think Horslips recorded this song too! and maybe Na Fili.

Don Oíche Úd i mBeithil (That Night in Bethlehem)

Don oíche úd i mBeithil, beidh tagairt ar ghréin go brach, Don oíche úd i mBeithil go dtáinig an Bhréithir slán; Tá ghriosghrua ar spéarthaibh 's an talamh 'na chlúdach bán; Féach Íosagán sa chléibhín, 's an Mhaighdean ' á dhiúl le grá.

Ar leacain lom an tsléibhe go nglacann na haoirí scóth Nuair in oscailt ghil na spéire tá teachtaire Dé ar fáil; Céad glóire anois don Athair i bhFlaitheasaibh thuas go hard! Is feasta fós ar talamh d'fhearaibh dea-mhéin síocháin!

Maith thú, a Philippa, "Abair Amhrán" is all very well when treated with caution. The lyrics you quote are substantially correct but a few ammendations are necessary; I hop you don't mind:- Beidh tagairt faoi ghréin go brách an Bhréithir = an Briathar sa chléibhín = sa chliabhán leacain lom an tsléibhe = ar leaca loma sléibhe go nglacann = 'sé ghlacann scóth = scáth Nuair in oscailt ghil = ar oscailt gheal dea-mhéin = dea-mhéin' Adh mór, Annraoi
