VUNI HOR MA LASKA MIVA
(BONNIE LASS O' GALA WATER)
(Trad. Scottish/Jan Lastovicka)

Vuni hor ma laska miva
a lesnich cest, kdyz je soumrak stmiva.
Dnes prejdu plan pred ubocim hor,
pak jen kousek cesty k mile zbyva.

Z jejich vlasu vitr dycha
a slunce na rasach jejich spava.
A usta ma sladka jak med divokych vcel
kdyz v mekke lesni trave mi je dava.

Za rekou les a ty kopce v dalce
kam slunce navecer hlavu sklani.
Tu dalku co zbyva ja dnes prekonam.
Chci v naruci te drzet za svitani.

Prichazeji pani vzacni
a kdo ji spatri, o ruku ji zada.
I rytiri s dykou a mecem stribrnym.
Vsak moje mila jenom me ma rada.

We have the words for "Braw Braw Lads of Gala Water" (same air) in another thread. Can anybody supply the (Scots) English verses for the Bonnie Lass of Gala Water?

Subject: Lyr Add: BONNIE LASS O' GALA WATER (McCalmans)

I don't know what prompted Philippa to post Czech lyrics to a Scottish song, but I was curious, so I went and looked on the Internet, and I found another copy of the same lyrics, but this one has diacritical marks:

Vůni hor má láska mívá
a lesních cest, když je soumrak stmívá.
Dnes přejdu pláň před úbočím hor,
pak jen kousek cesty k milé zbývá.

Z jejích vlasů vítr dýchá
a slunce na řasách jejích spává.
A ústa má sladká jak med divokých včel
když v měkké lesní trávě mi je dává.

Za řekou les a ty kopce v dálce
kam slunce navečer hlavu sklání.
Tu dálku co zbývá já dnes překonám.
Chci v náručí tě držet za svítání.

Přicházejí páni vzácní
a kdo ji spatří, o ruku ji žádá.
I rytíři s dýkou a mečem stříbrným.
Však moje milá jenom mě má ráda.

Skw@ posted these lyrics in another thread:

BONNIE LASS O' GALA WATER
As sung by the McCalmans

CHORUS: Bonnie lass o' Gala Water
Braw braw lass o' Gala Water
I would range the mountains sae deep
Wi' you bonnie lass o' Gala Water

Sae fair her hair, sae brent her brow,
Sae bonnie blue her een and cheerie
Oh I would go the length o' the Isle
Tae get back home wi' my dearie

O'er yonder moor, o'er yonder mountain,
O'er yon bonnie hills taegither
O I would range the mountains o' time
My own bonnie lass tae forgather

Lords and lairds came here tae woo,
And gentlemen wi' sword and dagger
But the black eyed lass o' Galashiels
Would hae nane but the gree o' Gala Water
