Subject: ADDPOP: Jennifer (Bert Sommer)
From: Uschaurischuum
Date: 22 May 06 - 05:22 PM

this little article is written by Uschaurischuum, who's living in Germany, so please, don't be too much surprised about my kind of writing.
I was very impressed, watching Bert Sommer's performance in the movie "Woodstock Diaries", I've also thought, Bert is a girl who liked to use a boys first name.

For someone who's used to speak the german language, the first sentence of the song is really hard to understand. But I love the song, and so I've tried to write it down. I'm sure, there are mistakes in the way, I've wrote it. I would be very happy, if someone, who knows it better than I do, would correct it at this place.
When the first sentence is translated into german, it's making sence, but I guess it sounds oldfashioned in both languages:

JENNIFER
(Bert Sommer)

Jennifer's heaven for genial outstay
skin shining white as a dove,
lying beside her I melted away
into her river of love

I'm lost in amaze,
counting the ways that she smiles
time is slipping away
lost in the arms of her love
so gentle and wild

Jennifer's something you
handle with care,
fragile as crystals of glass,
Jennifer's lips are as soft as the air
kissing her here in the grass

I'm lost in amaze,
counting the ways that she smiles,
and time is slipping away,
lost in the arms of her love,
so gentle and wild

Jennifer's heaven for genial outstay
skin shining white as a dove,
lying beside her I melted away
into her river of love
into her river of love
into her river of love
into her river of love

It seems he was a former member of "The Left Banke" - Remember the songs "Walk Away Renee" and "Pretty Ballerina" ?

Also, if you click the woodstock bluie, you can hear the song "Jennifer" and maybe get the words from there.

Have a good day.

I've just been watching the DVD "Woodstock Diary". The subject being the famous Woodstock Festival of '69. I was intrigued to see one artist that I had never previously heard of. That person being Bert Sommers. She, for it appears it is a she, is a fine singer. Does anyone know whatever became of her?. Is she the only "great unknown" to have played Woodstock? And on an associated topic, is Henry McCullogh the only Irishman to play the same gig?
