Subject: Tech: midi to PC connections From: cobber Date: 18 Mar 05 - 10:53 PM I want to connect my old Yamaha keyboard into the soundcard of my computer. The soundcard is a 15 pin D connector and the midi in and out s are 5 pin DIN sockets. I can buy a ready made lead but they want $45 for it and there's less than ten dollars in bits. I know how to solder. Does anyone know which pins go to where? |
Subject: RE: Tech: midi to PC connections From: Joe Offer Date: 19 Mar 05 - 02:35 AM Hi, Cobber - I think that's the standard connection for MIDI cables. I find them for $10 US when I need them, so I don't bother with soldering. Seems like you should be able to find a similar deal where you are - Amazon, perhaps? - search for MIDI cable. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Tech: midi to PC connections From: cobber Date: 19 Mar 05 - 02:42 AM Thanks Joe, but I'd still prefer to make my own. when I looked through my box I found I actually have all the components and I like the challenge. Having said that, I can always fall back on the other sources if all else fails. Cheers John |

Subject: RE: Tech: midi to PC connections From: Dave Bryant Date: 19 Mar 05 - 01:25 PM I`ve also found midi to PC leads quite cheap to buy ready made. If you do build your own, be careful to include the opto-isolators (basically a diode/photocell combination) to give protection to the instrument and the PC. |
