Subject: Lyr Add: SHILOH TOWN (Tim Hardin) From: GUEST,honeydhont Date: 24 Mar 05 - 07:02 PM Hi, recently I read in a book that Tim Hardin's 'Shiloh Town' (1974 - lyrics below) was previously recorded in the late 60s by Richie Havens on his album 'Electric Havens' as 'Shadow Town' (trad.). Since this album seems to be out of print, it's hard to make a comparison. Is there anyone familiar with this song? or the lyrics? Thanks in advance. It is so cold in Shiloh town The birds can't hardly sing The pretty girls gonna leave the town They won't be back until spring The war has been won; they come back home But they're the ones that lost I see a man and a woman alone Was it worth the cost? I'll sing hallelujah You'll sing hallelujah We'll all sing hallelujah When they arrive at home The sun is out; it's hot today Children all are out to play Some are quick to come back home Others have gone to stay It is so cold in Shiloh town The birds can't hardly sing Pretty girls gonna leave the town They won't be back till spring I'll sing hallelujah You'll sing hallelujah We'll all sing hallelujah When they arrive at home |
Subject: RE: Shadow/Shiloh Town From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Mar 05 - 02:01 AM Hmmm. Looks like we have three interrelate songs, but no solid information about the original source or version. See this Richard Thompson song (click) and the thread included in the crosslinks at the top of the page. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Shiloh Town (Tim Hardin) From: GUEST,Peter Sando Date: 11 Aug 19 - 11:18 AM As far as I can tell, Richie only sang the first verse and the Hallelujah refrain. It was rewritten by Tim in a later version on the album "Nine" to be anti war specific. |
