Subject: Difficulty contacting Heritage Muse From: Glynis Date: 25 Mar 05 - 04:16 AM I'm finding it impossible to get an eamil reply from Heritage Muse. They've only sent me three out of the five items I've paid for, we've had problems with software installation and they haven't responded to any of my emails. Has anyone else had a problem? |

Subject: RE: Difficulty contacting Heritage Muse From: Richard Bridge Date: 12 Jan 07 - 07:06 AM I had some helpful emials before Xmas and we agreed to talk in the new year but since then I have blown up the relevant computer and re-installation may be some way away! |
Subject: RE: Difficulty contacting Heritage Muse From: Dunlace Date: 23 May 07 - 12:02 PM I was very pleased with the Heritage Muse Child Ballads for the first few weeks. The software was not cheap, but it was very useful for my PhD work, until Adobe Reader updated itself, and suddenly the security key no longer worked and I couldn't view my files any more. When I wrote to David Kleiman I was amazed and pleased that he phoned from New York with a workaround, but guess what, next time Adobe updated itself, the Child Ballads vanished again .... this happened a couple more times, last time was January 2007 and Kleiman told me he was coming back to me with a genuine fix, since when I have heard nothing more in spite of many inquiries. It is extremely annoying as it really could be a very useful tool if it weren't for the absolutely bonkers security. Please, has anybody found a way round this problem? Dunlace |

Subject: RE: Difficulty contacting Heritage Muse From: Joe_F Date: 23 May 07 - 09:08 PM I have had similar experiences. I like having the Child Ballads on my computer, but when I first bought the disk, it didn't work, because (it turned out) my Adobe Reader wasn't new enough. It took a while, and the help of a friend, to get it updated. Then I upgraded that version, and once again the Child Ballads didn't work; it took another longish time for me to get the patch from Heritage Muse. I emailed them for it, and it didn't come, and it took quite a while to get thru to them on the phone, and they said they had sent it; but I never received it. It seems to me to have been a bad mistake to make the thing dependent on Adobe. Heritage Muse has thereby put its paid-up customers at the mercy of an outfit over which it & they have no control. When I first got the Heritage Muse up & working, I gave my five volumes to a nice lady. That may have been a mistake. However, I gather that the Child Ballads are now available on the Web in any case. That's where they belong. It is rather late in the day for them to be proputty proputty proputty. |
Subject: RE: Difficulty contacting Heritage Muse From: Richard Bridge Date: 24 May 07 - 01:26 AM Well by the time I got my computer working again I had lost interest so it stays on the shelf. It's such a pain to install I think I will not bother. |
Subject: RE: Difficulty contacting Heritage Muse From: Dunlace Date: 24 May 07 - 06:05 AM PS Does anybody in Mudcat Cafe have legal knowledge? What are the legal rights of those of us who have bought this dud Heritage Muse Child Ballads software? |
Subject: RE: Difficulty contacting Heritage Muse From: Richard Bridge Date: 24 May 07 - 02:48 PM I am a solicitor, InOBU and Heric are attorneys. IMHO there is no such thing as error free software. There are exciting legal issues (translation, don't go there) about shrink wrap licences. Generally, shrink wrap licences seek to exclude purchaser/licensee rights and remedies. It is likely to be less stressful to ask politely for replacement or refund or service than to try to insist, and for the amount of money involved it is wiser to chill. |
