Each year,I teach a short course on Irish traditional music and song to a mix of European and other students in my college taking a course in Irish Studies. For one of the sessions, Brendan, an accountancy lecturer in the college, obligingly comes in, plays a few tunes and talks about the musicians' perspective on the music. He's a fine player (button accordeon, mainly).

Regards

allmusic says MY HOME BY LOUGH REE was written by Michael Banahan and Brendan Doyle, who are members of Rig the Jig. The band recorded it on their album "Passing Through," Toucan Cove CD #50668, 2004.

Never heard of the band, but they have a website at http://www.rigthejig.com/, where you will find that the song is called My Home by Lough Ree.

A brief sound clip found elsewhere has the feel of a modern composition in the sentimental vein.

Greetings from Germany,

Heard a lovely song today on the readio sung by Rig the jig entitled "Logh Ree".

Does anybody know if this is a modern composition or is it an old trad. song?

I would love to get the music and the words, can anyone help?

I do intend to by the CD.

Thanks in advance and Happy Easter everyone.

JB
