My dad had a lot of songs he used to sing 40 years ago I need the words to. May I sleep in your barn tonight, Mister about a guy whose wife left him, and another, I Want to go back to that tumbledown shack are just two I would really appreciate a lead on. Thanks.

Slim Dusty did a version of it in his early days. It is to the tune of "Red River Valley"

Willie Nelson does it to on "Red Headed Stranger"

/Can I sleep in your arms tonight lady/ It's so cold lyin' here all alone/ And I need someone's arms to hold onto/ Til i'm strong enough to get back on my feet/

...or something like that.

Working my way through this thread I found a reference to a tramp coming into a bar from out of the night which reminded me of "The Face on the Barroom..." which remminded me of another thread about the "Stain on the Barroom Floor" which I noticed hasn't been addressed in quite a while. Did anyone ever pos the words to Uncle Albert's story?
