I would love it if I could find the old field recordings my dad had on LP. Does anyone know where I can find them? A lot of the travelers were featured on those.

hi, theres a cd being recorded at the moment with young singers from scotland singing scottish songs and ballad. most from the greig-duncan collection but im sure there will be some child ones thrown in as well as some more modern songs. some of the singers you might already know - karine polwart, shona donaldson, scott gardiner, fiona hunter, john valentine, barbara-ann burnett, steve byrne and gillian frame. its currently being recorded and we are hoping to get it out for late july. sure to be some cracking songs and ballads on it!

Folks, great info as usual.

Well web-searching the Fellside CDs mentioned above, I came across this informative article in the Journal of American Folklore:

The English revival canon: Child ballads and the invention of tradition

I too can recommend the Fellside CD - FECD 110 - a compilation album from a number of excellent singers. Obtainable through their website.

I bought my Heritage Collectors edition (data CD with the whole text of Child and music CD with a varied collection of recordings of sometimes seldom heard ballads by top singers) from our own Dick Greenhaus at Camsco Music and got it without problems. Definitely worth the money! Now who'll buy me the time to go through it properly?

See my post - "Difficulty contacting Heritage Muse" .

My personal experience - I haven't received all the items I paid for (3 out of 5) and have received no replies to my emails.

The last contact I had from them was 2 February 05 and I have sent several emails to them since that date.

I would not be able to recommend buying from them, based on my own personal experiece.

Hi outfidel

You could go to Heritage Collectors at http://www.heritagemuse.com/default.htm & check out the digital edition of Child's colection. It costs a few bucks but you'd be amazed at the songs, backround & the detailed info that the author, David Kleiman has amassed.

Good Luck

Barry

Maybe someone could do up a link? Thanks

Can anyone recommend a good CD of traditional English/Scottish ballads, including Child ballads? I've started getting into the genre via songs like Bob Dylan's "Barbara Allen" & Doc Watson's "Matty Groves".

Who are some of the modern masters for this stuff - Martin Carthy? Ewan MacColl?

Thanks!
