Subject: Tune Req: Sussex By The Sea From: GUEST,TAFFY r-jones@shaw.ca Date: 01 Apr 05 - 01:56 PM My mother was born in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, and was always humming or singing this song when I was a kid back in the 1920s. I already have the complete words, and the tune itself, But I recall we also had a record with a male singer singing it. Any idea who this singer could be? Or any leads to a male singer singing ALL the verses? Thanks! |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Sussex BY The Sea From: Taffy2 Date: 01 Apr 05 - 06:57 PM Thanks, Kenny, but the other folks seem to have been concentrating more on the sheet music and the words as separate items, whereas I'm looking for an old-time (OLD old-time?) male singer doing this song. I do have a more modern rendition - just verses 1,2 and 4, plus the chorus, of course - sung by someone named London Bobby in the style of a pub singalong. But what I really need is the entire thing. Needed, by the way, so I can merge it into my memoirs which I've spent the last 14 years or so in compiling.. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Sussex BY The Sea From: Taffy2 Date: 02 Apr 05 - 11:52 PM Thanks, Carole. I have the words to all five verses, and I also have the tune (sung by London Bobby - whoever he is), but as I'm merging these songs into my autobiography (covering 84 years so far) I'd rather have an OLD-time singer singing all 5 verses plus chorus, rather than Bobby singing just 3 of them in a supposed pub. On the other hand, if you'd like me to e-mail you the Bobby one, contact me at r-jones@shaw.ca |
