Here's a tough one, but I have every faith in 'catters.

The missus just heard a song whilst driving the car, bless her, and as usual her mind was elsewhere so although she reckons the song is fantastic and wants it, all that sunk in was, that its "sort of country and western, and its about a stripper, with the devil on the left shoulder and an angel on the right, or vice versa".

Just hope there is someone out there that might be able to decipher the message.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks oombanjo, what I forgot to mention (small detail) was that this one was a female singer, seemingly telling her own story.

Patricia the Stripper was done by Chris De Burgh but has no reference to devils or angels on either shoulder....... but she was the best stripper in town.

Searches for "The Stripper" will need to distinguish the one wanted from the instrumental "bawdyhouse" version that was occasionally on the pop charts in the early 1980s and perhaps earlier. One of the local DJs played it every morning for some months ca. 1984-5(?) as the theme for "The Morning Flex Club," with the tagline "All Right Ladies - FLEX IT!"

So far as I know there were no lytics to the one he played. This one may have been an old vaudeville number - or a parody of one.

Perhaps:

Cowboy Lyrics

Artist/Band: Jamie O Neal
Lyrics for Song: Devil On The Left
Lyrics for Album: Brave

Down in the Delta there's a tattoo parlor
With a black and white picture hangin' on the wall
Oh, oh of a stripper
The men are still talkin' 'bout the rainy night she walked in
Took off her shirt like it was nothin' at all
Oh, oh what a picture
Everyone assumed she'd been drinkin'
When she pointed to her shoulders
And said, boys, here's what I'm thinkin'

Put a devil on the left, an angel on the right
I'm already livin' in the middle of the fight
And round and round and round and round it goes
Part of me's in heaven, part of me's in hell
Part of me is strugglin' tryin' to find my way through life
With a devil on the left and an angel on the right

Down in the Delta there's a rundown chapel
With a worn out floor where a preacher used to pray
Oh, oh for the stripper
While right across the street they were packed in tight
Just a-pushin' and a-shovin', sweatin' by the stage
Oh, oh to tip her
She brought a lot of men to their knees
But only one of them was thinkin'
Lord, won't you help her please

She's got a devil on the left, an angel on the right
They've got her dancin' in the middle of the fight
And round and round and round and round she goes
Part of her's in heaven, part of her's in hell
Part of her is strugglin' trying to find her way through life
With a devil on the left and an angel on the right

In a cornfield in Kansas there's a little yellow house
With a white picket fence going all the way around
Oh, oh mama what's that on your shoulders
No, no, no child, maybe when you're older

Now there's an angel on the left, an angel on the right
Ring around the rosie underneath the open sky
And round and round and round and round
Round and round and round and round they go

[Thanks to HuntingtonM15@comcast.net for lyrics]

A tech note: The above "Cowboy Lyrics" site has a search bar to look for lyrics for other artists. If you click it, it will offer to install a "browser helper." When you click NO, you'll likely get an error message saying "cannot load site." The site it's talking about is the "helper download site," so if you hit your "Back" button it will likely take you to where you clicked to go. Once you've refused the "helper" it doesn't appear to pop up again.

The site was a new one to me, but appears to have quite a selection of lyrics - all by Artist/Band names, so it's a little tough to search by song titles. It also claims to have "tab" for most songs, but the few I looked at are just lyrics with "chords" inserted. No real tab that I found.

Someone up above mentioned "Patricia the Stripper." On the chance that it's actually the one wanted, I'll note that I found sheet music available (in a book) at:

Chris de Burgh: Greatest Hits
Publisher : Amsco Wyse € 18.91

I didn't find lyrics for this one, but didn't look too hard; since "Angel On the Left" seemed to fit the request.
