I just listened to NPR program Science Friday on Talk of the Nation.
When i went to the link for the magazine, i found an article about
Cigar Box Guitars. The editor of Make Magazine, Makezine, was on the
radio show sharing ideas about things you can make from common items
in order to recycle or reuse them.

when my kids started with suzuki violin lessons,
they were instructed to start out on a fiddle made
from a butter box with a ruler for a fingerboard
and a pencil for a bow. It is quite hard to find a
wooden cigar box these days...almost as hard as it
is to find a wooden cigar store indian.

There was a thread not long ago on the subject of cigar box banjos
and guitars, put cigar box in the forum search and you will find it.

Hope this helps, it's a good subject....and I'm still hanging on
to a nice, (although plywood), chocolate box, I'll get round to
making one, one day.

There are of course,several sites out there on making you're own
instruments out of bits, this one especially.
