. . . and John Prine had some other catchy lines in "Sam Stone" like

"Little pitchers have big ears"
"Sam Stone . . .was alone . . . when he popped his last balloon"

His humor continued with songs like "Dear Abby", the one about " Hari Krishna Beauregard", another about the lonely soldier who fell in love with Lydia, the big fat gal in the theater ticket window, etc.

Was it the Stanley Brothers who did those classics such as:

"Grandpa Fell Asleep and the Hogs Ate Him"

or

"Son, Get Up and Light the Lamp, I Think I Knocked One of Your Maw's Eyeballs Out"

Then there was the megahit:

"(I Cannot Hear You With These) Beans In My Ears!"

etc., etc., etc., ad nausem!

WHAT?

"I'd Like to Check You for Ticks"

Clip: http://www.cmt.com/artists/az/paisley_brad/1544217/album.jhtml

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q1bv1Ywa94

Lyrics:

I'D LIKE TO CHECK YOU FOR TICKS
As sung by Brad Paisley

Every time you take a sip
In this smoky atmosphere
You press that bottle to your lips
And I wish I was your beer
In the small there of your back
Your jeans are playing peekaboo
I'd like to see the other half of your butterfly tattoo.

Hey that gives me an idea
Let's get out of this bar
Drive out into the country
And find a place to park.

CHORUS:
'Cause I'd like to see you out in the moonlight
I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks
I'd like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
And I'd like to check you for ticks.

I know the perfect little path
Out in these woods I used to hunt
Don't worry babe I've got your back
And I've also got your front
Now, I'd hate to waste a night like this
I'll keep you safe you wait and see
The only thing allowed to crawl all over you when we get there is me.

You know every guy in here tonight
Would like to take you home
But I've got way more class than them
Babe that ain't what I want.

You never know where one might be
There's lots of place that are hard to reach...

I'd sure like to check you for ticks...

In response to an early post:

According to the credits on the "Live At Folsom Prison" album, the song
"I've Been Flushed From The Bathroom Of Your Heart" was written by Jack
Clement, who also wrote the preceding song "Dirty Old Egg Sucking Dog"
(another humorous title and tune).

Harlan Howard did write two of the songs on that album; "Busted" which
originally appeared on Cash's album; "Blood, Sweat And Tears" and "The
Wall" which originally appeared on his "Orange Blossom Special" album.

"I Forgot To Remember To Forget" by Elvis and Johnny is another funny
title.
"All My Ex's Live In Texas" by George Strait was a funny song title.

Jimmy Buffet, I believe, was once responsible for one of those "tell us what you're really thinkin'" song titles: "Why don't we get drunk and s---w?" I always secretly admired those who didn't dwell in a euphemistic world.

E-mail this morning from the Derbyshire Evening Telegraph. They have received a message that the lyrics of Buster the Line Dancing Dog were a little 'blue'. This is because they inadvertently put the version we had hoped would interest Bernard Wrigley on their website, instead of the radio friendly version Jack Hudson got in the country charts for us.

All of which goes to show - there are people out there listening. One forgets that sometimes.

Both versions can be heard for free on my website.

"If nobody calls, you'll know it's me."

"Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed," by that old politically incorrect Texas charmer, Kinky Friedman.

An altered version of Johnny Cash's old hit, "I walk the line," which goes:

"I keep a close watch on this heart of mine.
I keep my pants up with a piece of twine.
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds ...
Just say you're mine; I'll cut the twine!"

I once wrote, in a fit of anger:

I can't cry you away
I can't pray you away,
I can't stand the sight of you,
Guess I'll have to kill you.

The rest of the song was even worse. Never gave it a title...nor sang it in public...

I think the song "Somebody Else's Boots Under My Bed" or something like that was recorded by Shania Twain early in her career. I found a mock country record by Garry ? and his playboy band titled "Where You Born an Asshole?". Also, there's "Dolly Partons T*ts" a real humdinger of a tune that one!
