Subject: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Susan of DT Date: 04 Apr 05 - 04:18 PM Dick and I will be coming to Whitby Week this August. The first time we went, we flew to London and visited Southern mudcatters. The second time we came over, we flew to Glasgow and visited Northern mudcatters. We have not yet bought plane tickets. We do have a cottage. Who would like us to visit with them this time? You can post or PM. Are there other folk events right before or after Whitby? We look forward to seeing lots of you at Whitby. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Catherine Jayne Date: 04 Apr 05 - 04:23 PM There is a room for you here in London if you are in the area. Maybe we can hold one of the Black Lion Sessions to welcome you!! Khatt and Micca |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: treewind Date: 04 Apr 05 - 04:32 PM Let us know if you're going anywhere near Cambridge or elswehere in East Anglia. Safe house for travelling folkies here! What are your dates in the UK, outside Whitby? Anahata |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Guy Wolff Date: 04 Apr 05 - 05:12 PM Susan I love flying into Manchester . Its far enough north to make the rest of the trip doable . Have a great time You know how much I wish I was there . All the best , Guy |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Susan of DT Date: 05 Apr 05 - 01:13 PM So far, it sounds like the southern route. Micca - are you in the same place as the last time we wee over? We have not gotten specific yet, a few days before and after Whitby. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Micca Date: 05 Apr 05 - 02:08 PM Susan, Yes we are and would be delighted to see you guys!!! and I can probably meet you from Heathrow or whereever, we have other vissitors expected in late July so please PM me when you have a clear idea of actual dates. We can try and arrange a session at the Black Lion (if they are still speaking to us after the Handfasting weekend!!!) |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: LesB Date: 05 Apr 05 - 03:14 PM Hi, I would have thought Manchester would be a good destination to fly into. There is a lot to see in the North. The weekend before Whitby there is Saltburn, just up the coast, the week after (bank holiday weekend) there is Saddleworth Rushcart & Bridgenorth & Towersey festivals. Then 1 week later Fylde Festival. Cheers Les |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Geoff the Duck Date: 05 Apr 05 - 03:50 PM Susan and Dick. I haven't ever got to the Sadleworth Rushcart because it follows immediately after Whitby and I am usually trying to recover from Folk Week. The one I have done is Sowerby Bridge Rushcart which happens the following weekend. These are not manufactured "Folk Events" but part of a real living tradition and worth seeing. That said, there is also plenty of music, dance and singing associated with them. Both Saddleworth and Sowerby Bridge are in parts of the Pennine Hills with outstanding scenery. Quack GtD. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: oombanjo Date: 05 Apr 05 - 04:06 PM Hi Susan and Dick When you are at Whitby, if you see an old time banjo player, short, fat and bald, that won't be me I'll be the tall dark handsome one, "not" give me a shout. Enjoy your visit and I hope to run into you. Cheers Oombanjo. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Tig Date: 05 Apr 05 - 05:48 PM Whilst you are at Whitby you really ought to try and take a short run (21 miles) up to Guisborough to the Globe - aka theMudcat Watering Hole - and sign in the Mudbook. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Susan of DT Date: 05 Apr 05 - 07:14 PM Can you tell us more about the festivals Les mentioned? websites? distance from Whitby? We are into traditional music. I like vocal and he likes both vocal and instrumental. Tig - What nite does the Globe have music? Oombanjo - Dick plays banjo and will probably bring over the small, but does not walk around with it that much. Geoff - I'm sure we will run into you there Micca - we should have a car. it is hard to get around chunks of the country otherwise. If we come in thru London, we will surely come by and a session at the black Lion would be welcome. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Naemanson Date: 05 Apr 05 - 08:47 PM Hey! What are the dates for Whitby? I'll be in England in August also! |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Alaska Mike Date: 05 Apr 05 - 09:00 PM Hi Susan and Dick, it appears we will be in England near the same time as you. I will be posting my gigs and travel schedule once I get a few more things worked out. We will not be going to Whitby this trip, but I will be the guest artist at Four Fools Folk Club in Adlington, Lancashire on August 15th. Perhaps we can find a time and place to stop and share a moment during our trips. Keep in touch. Mike |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: treewind Date: 06 Apr 05 - 03:54 AM Whitby: August 19 - 26. At the weekend immediately following (26-29 including bank holiday Monday) you have a choice of big festivals: Bridgnorth (nearest), Towersey, Cornwall (furthest). To find out about other festivals a good start is The fRoots Festival List Anahata |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Naemanson Date: 06 Apr 05 - 05:10 AM Soo, basically what we have going on here is an American invasion! Alaska Mike, Dick Greenhaus, Susan, and me, all in England at the same time! Can they take it? Will we be stretching the limits of that island to support their brethren and sistren from across the sea? Stay tuned, campers, and we'll find out! |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Dave the Gnome Date: 06 Apr 05 - 05:41 AM Can't offer accomodation this time Guys - Sorry! We already have transatlantic visitors (Cousins from Illinois) from the middle of August to early September! I would certainly recommend the Fylde Folk Festival - 2/3/4 Sept 2005, but if you want a weekend ticket - buy early! You could do the coast to coast drive, Whitby to Fleetwood. Something you could not accomplish easily back home:-) Let us know your whereabouts and I will try and catch you someplace anyway. Cheers Dave |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: manitas_at_work Date: 06 Apr 05 - 09:00 AM Limpit and I will be in Whitby so we may bump into you. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Susan of DT Date: 06 Apr 05 - 04:50 PM Thanx, everyone. Is it possible to drive from Whitby to Cornwall - Wadebridge/ Bodmin/ Plymouth - in a day? There are motorways from Leeds to Exeter - not a great way to see the country, but a great way to make time. We are still figuring out how to put this together. When it comes closer, we can stare at eash others pictures. We wear mudcat shirts a lot. The place I know I will be every day is the ballad workshop at 1 pm upstairs in the conservative club, if they have not moved it. I don't know whether they want us to do a workshop on the DT again. Dave - are you going to Whitby? I was looking at the various festivals from froots, but am not familiar with most of the performers. Who hgas lots of trad? |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Manitas_at_home Date: 07 Apr 05 - 01:55 AM Susan, It's a long journey but possible. You'd want to cross to the M6 and them pick up the M5 by Birmingham. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Paco Rabanne Date: 07 Apr 05 - 03:48 AM How on Earth could you come to England and not spend a few days in sunny Hull??? |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Noreen Date: 07 Apr 05 - 06:32 AM Susan, I would say that that would be about an 8-9 hour drive, with no stops and no holdups- and our motorways are famous for their delays. Then when you add in travelling to Cornwall in August... no, I wouldn't recommend it, unless you like traffic jams. If heading south when leaving Whitby though, it is a good idea to go via Guisborough to get onto the fast roads quicker (even though you're heading in the wrong direction to start with) so a stop off at the Watering Hole fits in well! Have a great trip. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Susan of DT Date: 08 Apr 05 - 09:28 AM So Cornwall is out. Tentatively fly to London, stop by Micca, Anahatta, probably Bill Sables. Thinking about a festival after Whitby. We will see how this shapes up. We are off to NEFFA for this weekend. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Susan of DT Date: 22 Jul 05 - 09:16 PM I was putting together the itinerary and driving directions. It looks like: Arrive at Heathrow Tues morning Aug 16, go to Micca's Wed, drive to Cambridge, visit Anahata and Mary Thursday, drive to Bill & Lorna Sables in Goole, stay until Sat morning Go to Whitby for the week Naemanson and wife will join us at the cottage at some point Sat August 27, start driving South, no destination that day Maybe stop in at the singing barn in Towersey on Sun Stay at B&B near Wallingford Sun Mon Aug 29, fly home |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Leadfingers Date: 23 Jul 05 - 11:52 AM Barn at Towersey is well worth a visit ! Admiral runs the sing (Another Catter) and there is usually a fair Cat turnout ! I am normally there on the Sunday myself , so will keep an eye out ! |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Grab Date: 24 Jul 05 - 04:52 PM If you'll be coming through Cambridge and you'll be going out of an evening, give me a shout if you fancy adding another Catter to the list. Be fun to know who to look for at Whitby as well. Graham. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Susan of DT Date: 24 Jul 05 - 08:25 PM Graham - if you know Anahata, contact him and see what you can arrange. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Susan of DT Date: 15 Aug 05 - 07:10 AM We leave tonite. Hope to see many of you there. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: GUEST,neovo Date: 15 Aug 05 - 09:57 AM I see some comments about Saddleworth Rushcart earlier in this thread. If you want to catch Rushcart - and I would highly recommend it - please note that it is this coming weekend, 20/21 August, not the weekend of the August Bank Holiday. Rushcart is always the second Saturday after 12 August and so doesn't always fall at the Bank Holiday. Neovo |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 15 Aug 05 - 11:06 AM It would be good to arrange an official gathering sometime during the week in Whitby. The Black Horse has been suggested as a venue maybe later in the week - say Thursday - when hopefully Naemonson will have arrived? |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Susan of DT Date: 15 Aug 05 - 11:38 AM Naemanson is coming sometime on Monday and staying thru some time on Friday. He is sharing our cottage. What time at the Black Horse? |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 15 Aug 05 - 11:51 AM Well anytime from about 1pm through to about 5pm in the back room should be OK. I'll check with landlady but shouldn't be a problem. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 15 Aug 05 - 12:43 PM Venue and time still under discussion but I will make sure that it is advertised in good time during folk week if not before. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: Susan of DT Date: 15 Aug 05 - 01:03 PM Assuming the schedule hasn't changed, I go to ballads from 1-3 each day. Too bad you had to stop having the barbeques. |

Anahata - looking forward to it. We now have enough mudcat shirts to wear them all week so those who have not yet met us can find us. We leave in about two hours. Overnite flight. Tuesday with Micca and Catsphiddle, Wed to Anahata and Mary, Thursday to Bill And Lorna, Saturday to Whitby. |

Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus & Susan to Whitby 2005 From: treewind Date: 18 Aug 05 - 01:21 PM Progress report: Dick and Susan have been fed and watered here in the heart of East Anglia (we had a few tunes and songs as well) and were pointed in the direction of the A1 this morning together with precious cargo of Mudcat T shirts, so by the time you read this they should have found Bill Sables' residence and be preparing for the final short hop to Whitby. See you all there, Saturday afternoon onwards! Graham - so we'll easily spot you - you'll be the one in the MudCat T-shirt! (?) Anahata |
